Today is National Trafficking in Persons Day.

When many people think about human trafficking, they think about the moment of exploitation. But for survivors, the journey does not end when exploitation ends.

Healing happens over time. It happens through consistent support, trusted relationships, access to resources, and people who are willing to walk alongside someone as they rebuild their life.

Recently, one of our clients had a milestone conversation with Michelle. After months of navigating challenges, connecting to resources, and working toward stability, she reflected on where she is today:

"My mental health is good. My job is good. My bills are paid. That would not have happened without your help."

Those words represent so much more than a checklist of accomplishments. They represent stability. Hope. A future that once felt impossible.

At Stone Haven, we believe survivors deserve more than a way out of exploitation. They deserve the opportunity to heal, rebuild, and thrive.

Today, we honor survivors. We remember those still experiencing exploitation. And we remain committed to the long-term work of walking alongside women as they reclaim their futures.

It's amazing what french fries can do.

Every week, we are out meeting with women experiencing various levels of crisis. Sharing a meal, listening to their stories, helping fill out a referral for a program, applying for medicaid, and offering a little bit of hope.

Sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen over a simple meal. A gift card can remove a barrier, create a safe space to connect, and remind someone that they matter.

We're grateful to the Women's Circle Group from Bridgewater Church of the Brethren who recently donated lots of gift cards to support this part of our outreach. Your generosity is helping us meet women where they are and build relationships that can lead to healing ❤️

Stone Haven is grateful to the AFP Shenandoah Chapter for investing in our mission through a scholarship to attend the Virginia Fund Raising Institute last week!

Stronger fundraising skills mean greater sustainability, expanded resources, and more support for survivors of sexual exploitation as they pursue healing. Every opportunity to learn + grow as a fundraiser directly impacts the women we serve.

Seven dollars.

That’s what it cost to provide this survivor with seeds to start her garden.

In the middle of a really hard season, she chose to plant anyway.

The tenacity it takes to get up and keep going when it feels like everything else is crumbling is hard. But we see it every day. Not just with her, but with each woman we serve.

Healing rarely happens all at once. More often, it looks like small, brave choices made day after day. Choosing to show up. Choosing to believe tomorrow can be different. Choosing to plant seeds even when you're not sure yet what will grow.

She’s not just growing vegetables here. She’s proving to herself that there is hope beyond today.

She planted the seed, watered it, tended it, and stayed long enough to harvest the fruit of her labor. She pulled the weeds that threatened to take over. This garden mirrors her own journey in some ways. Growth takes time. Healing takes patience.

Sometimes hope looks like a tiny packet of seeds and the courage to put them in the ground.

Her last year has been absolutely exhausting. Her places of rest have included a train, a tent, and less than savory hotels. She hasn't had her own mattress in many years, until now ❤️

Thanks to SLEEP on it for providing her with a brand new mattress that is her very own! Now she can sleep peacefully and comfortably in her own space. That makes such a difference for women who are working hard to recover + find healing! ❤️
