𝗖𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗪𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡 𝗘𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗧!

We’re honoured to be part of the 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 last week, organised by DesignSingapore Council (DSg), and refreshingly conceptualised and hosted by Tamsin Greulich-Smith and Jeffrey T. K. Valino Koh.

The Summit this year brings together over 500 students, educators, and designers to explore and reflect on diverse design mindsets.

Crater is grateful to be appointed by DSg as a 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘺 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯 programme partner for primary and secondary schools these two years.

In particular, we want to thank Sheena Lai, Junhua Chen and Ben Tan for their unwavering support and faith in our signature programme and one-of-its kind brand of design education.

Here’s a look at what happened during the eventful Summit:

🔸 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲) - 𝐔𝐧𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐬: Our founder Puah and Head of Character & Citizenship Education Timothy Song from our partner school, Raffles Institution, shared about fostering empathy through conversations and community trails. This was followed by a lively exchange with other educators in the room on how to harness design thinking to nurture students’ E21CC (ie Emerging 21st-Century Competencies) dispositions, skills, and values.

🔸 Lim shared our abstract, “𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱: 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻,” at the 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 & 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲. Having impacted 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟭,𝟴𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 × 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹, she shared early insights on an experiential, place-based approach to cultivating empathy and creativity through neighbourhood exploration with fellow researchers, design practitioners and educators.

🔸 Most importantly, we’re reminded of how we ourselves as design educators must embody and immerse in these design mindsets: 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆, 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆, and role-model them as we empower our youths to be co-creators in the future of design education.

We’re excited to be part of the 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 — where educators, innovators, designers, and researchers come together to explore how design can advance accessibility, inclusivity, and sustainability.

After visiting and learning from their community partners, the students documented their journey — capturing interviews and stories from the people they met along the way.

A big thank you to KFC and Snap Fitness .sg for being part of this trail, and to all our other community partners for supporting meaningful learning experiences beyond the classrooms!

Over the past two years, our Community Trails have brought 𝟏,𝟕𝟕𝟖 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 beyond their classrooms — connecting with 𝟏𝟎𝟖 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝟓 𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬.

Through these trails, students learnt to listen, observe, and empathise with people in their communities — discovering stories, values, and perspectives that can’t be found in textbooks.

They used these insights to help create more 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐕𝐈𝐀 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬, and even for 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬.

✨ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?

At TEDxSingapore Youth, our founder Louis Puah shared his journey — from being told to “focus on grades” to discovering his path through mentors, passions, and everyday conversations.

From students running their own Beyblade competitions, to interviewing neighbourhood shopkeepers, to even setting up a co-working space in school, Louis reminded us that real learning isn’t confined to classrooms. It happens everywhere — in our neighbourhoods, communities, workplaces, and the connections we build each day.

The future of learning often begins in the simplest moments — the conversations we have about life, dreams, and what matters to us.

Today's the last day of school for Term 2 and Crater set up a gratitude wall for students and parents to express gratitude to fellow students, parents, teachers, staff.

It takes a village to raise a child.

As we move into the June holidays, our boys (and parents!) recognized the efforts of everyone in the village. The exercise was a reminder that we are all trying our best, and affirmed each other's efforts.

We will be displaying the notes that were written in Term 3 as the boys return from the holidays, aiming to nurture a culture of peer support and recognition!

𝙒𝙚𝙡𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝘾𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧! 🧪🫧

Our team at Crater was delighted to host team members of Chemistry at our office earlier this week.

Chemistry is a strategic experience design consultancy, driven by a passion for creating meaningful impact through human and planet-centred design.

The highlight of our afternoon was letting Chemistry’s team experience The Collapse, an economic-simulation game developed by Praxium.

After playing The Collapse, Chemistry’s team reflected that the game helped them to think more deeply about the necessary trade-offs societies have to make in their development.

𝑪𝒐-𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒚 🚶🏻‍♂️🧹

Over the past 3 weeks, the team from Stridy dropped by Crater to work in the space and chat with students.

Here in Crater, we actively welcome community partners to co-work at Crater and inspire students with the work they do.

Stridy is a non-profit organisation founded in Singapore to encourage citizens to clean up within the urban community.

Fun fact: Stridy’s current intern, Aidan, was a past student at St. Andrew’s Secondary School!
