Hey friends and Neighbours!
If you have time - you would be wise to have your "Go Bags" ready to go, even if an evacuation Notice is not in place. Here are some things we have done for those "just in case" times!
I have packed away all of our meds and personal products into carry bags...and I keep the bags in my bath tub so I don't trip over them...easy access too.
Take a few nights of clothing...and snacks and water. There is a possibility you could be sleeping in your car...or even better - your RV!
Do the same for pet supplies!
Family Treasures? The ones you can't replace?
I know exactly which ones I would take of ours- if we had a notice in place to evacuate.
Frankly - if it is "get out of dodge NOW" they would likely remain in our house.
Helpful hint....go around your house NOW and take pictures on your phone of everything that is valuable - so your insurance claims will be more realistic and hopefully easier.
Important Papers? Most things are on line...but if you do have valuable documents (like Passports?) pack them into your Go Bags.
For example, a friend of mine has historical family documents dating back to the 1800's...those should be packed away to go! Can't replace them.
If you are evacuating -
Hopefully you have vehicles that have full tanks of gas. Also park them so the front ends face out, for quick departures.
Do you have farm animals?
Make arrangements for them in advance. Many people have been offering up their pastures. Also bring supplies of hay etc.
Reception Centres will be set up for those fleeing a fire. Look for signage - and check out the Voyent Alert from RDEK to see what the evacuation routes are. Let your out of area families know you are evacuating. Also have a plan to connect up with your local friends/family.
