Leila’s Promise was proud to serve as a community partner at today’s Empowered Wellness Foundation Rise & Thrive Back-to-School Community Health Fair at Wayman Palmer YMCA.

We were especially proud to collaborate with the Toledo Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. and the Toledo OH Chapter of The Links, Incorporated to co-host the American Red Cross Blood Drive, helping support the critical need for lifesaving blood in our community.

We also had so much fun with our partners and friends at the Leila’s Promise STEM table, where we worked with the next generation of scientists, engineers, healthcare professionals, and innovators! 🧪🧬

Our young scientists explored bubbling lava experiments, invisible ink, the Skittles Challenge, and DNA name bracelets, learning through hands-on activities, curiosity, and a little bit of mess!

There is something special about watching a child discover how science works right in front of them. We hope today sparked a few new interests in STEM and showed our young people that there is a place for them in science, medicine, technology, and research.

Thank you to Empowered Wellness Foundation for bringing our community together and to all of the organizations, volunteers, families, and friends who made Rise & Thrive such a meaningful day.

At Leila’s Promise, we believe service can start at any age, and today was a wonderful example of what can happen when we work together. 🩷💜

At the end of May, my family traveled back to Liberia to say goodbye to my grandma, Sunshine.

My grandma was full of faith and love. We called each other “Sunshine” because she would sing You Are My Sunshine to me when I was little. That nickname will always be special to me.

While we were in Liberia, I wanted to honor her in a way that reflected the kindness she showed to those she met.

On World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Leila’s Promise donated $500 to Eta Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to support its efforts to provide menstrual hygiene kits for girls in Liberia.

I can’t think of a better way to remember my grandma than by choosing kindness and helping others.

I love you, Sunshine. Thank you for your prayers, your love, and for always believing in me. I will carry your light with me wherever I go. ☀️💛

From Toledo to Peki Avetile, Ghana 🇬🇭💛

Leila’s Promise was honored to partner in the Giggles Fun Fest, a joyful day centered on children, community, and care. This impactful initiative was led by the NYO Impact Foundation in collaboration with Kuk_Keys Real Estate, bringing together partners committed to improving child welfare across the Volta Region.

Alongside members of the Toledo (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and members of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Global AHBRG, our team had the privilege of leading hands-on STEM activities. The children explored bubbling lava experiments and discovered the magic of invisible ink, turning curiosity into excitement and learning.

Beyond the experiments, the day was filled with moments that mattered. Children received Easter baskets, enjoyed games, dancing, face painting, and shared meals. Uninsured children were also registered for healthcare services, ensuring support that extends well beyond the day’s celebration.

This is the heart of our work. Creating spaces where young people can learn, feel seen, and access opportunity.

Leila’s Promise is grounded in a simple mission: empowering youth voices through service while creating pathways for leadership, learning, and impact.

We are grateful to stand alongside partners who share this vision.

Today we honor Dr. King not with words, but with work.

This MLK Day, we volunteered with our Toledo Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated and Jems2Jewels family at the Islamic Foodbank of Toledo. Together, we packed 1,005 bags of food that will be distributed to students and families in Toledo Public Schools and Washington Local Schools.

Service has always been at the heart of what we do. It is how we teach empathy, responsibility, and care for our neighbors. Dr. King believed that everyone can be great because everyone can serve. Today, and every day, we choose to serve with purpose and compassion.

No act of service is too small when it is done with care.
