From Toledo to Peki Avetile, Ghana 🇬🇭💛

Leila’s Promise was honored to partner in the Giggles Fun Fest, a joyful day centered on children, community, and care. This impactful initiative was led by the NYO Impact Foundation in collaboration with Kuk_Keys Real Estate, bringing together partners committed to improving child welfare across the Volta Region.

Alongside members of the Toledo (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and members of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Global AHBRG, our team had the privilege of leading hands-on STEM activities. The children explored bubbling lava experiments and discovered the magic of invisible ink, turning curiosity into excitement and learning.

Beyond the experiments, the day was filled with moments that mattered. Children received Easter baskets, enjoyed games, dancing, face painting, and shared meals. Uninsured children were also registered for healthcare services, ensuring support that extends well beyond the day’s celebration.

This is the heart of our work. Creating spaces where young people can learn, feel seen, and access opportunity.

Leila’s Promise is grounded in a simple mission: empowering youth voices through service while creating pathways for leadership, learning, and impact.

We are grateful to stand alongside partners who share this vision.

Today we honor Dr. King not with words, but with work.

This MLK Day, we volunteered with our Toledo Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated and Jems2Jewels family at the Islamic Foodbank of Toledo. Together, we packed 1,005 bags of food that will be distributed to students and families in Toledo Public Schools and Washington Local Schools.

Service has always been at the heart of what we do. It is how we teach empathy, responsibility, and care for our neighbors. Dr. King believed that everyone can be great because everyone can serve. Today, and every day, we choose to serve with purpose and compassion.

No act of service is too small when it is done with care.

Leila’s Promise was honored to sponsor all the gifts for the Toledo Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Soulful Santa and Holiday Workshop at the Boys & Girls Club of Toledo. It was a joy to spend the evening with our Jack and Jill family watching the 70+ club members create crafts, record podcasts, and shop for gifts with their holiday bucks. Grateful for an evening full of laughter, creativity, and care.

We are excited to share that Leila has been recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Northwest Ohio Chapter with the Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy award.

A special thank you to Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity for nominating Leila and for being so meaningful in this journey. Your support has given Leila more chances to serve, learn, and grow.

To everyone who has volunteered, donated, encouraged, or spread the word about Leila’s Promise, this honor belongs to you as well. You show that when young people are trusted and supported, they can make a real difference.

Leila’s Promise at the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s® – Toledo

Over the weekend, we joined families and community partners at the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s® – Toledo. We walked in memory of our grandmother and great-grandmother, Henrietta Brewer, who passed away in December 2024. Her kindness and resilience continue to inspire our work and the way we show up for others.

The Promise Garden was a powerful reminder that every flower represents a story, a life touched by love, memory, and hope. It was meaningful to see young people walking beside caregivers and those living with Alzheimer’s, learning firsthand what advocacy and empathy look like in action.

We are grateful to the Alzheimer’s Association Northwest Ohio Chapter and the many volunteers who made the event possible. Thank you for bringing our community together to honor those we’ve lost and to stand with those still fighting.

We’re so grateful for your support and belief in our mission. Every dollar raised helps us keep showing up for our community here and abroad and continuing to make a difference where it matters most.

We also want to give a special shoutout to our amazing friends who also volunteer alongside us Chantell, Salena, Myla, Samiyah, Isa, and Gracie for accepting on our behalf. Even though Leila couldn’t be there in person, having you represent meant the world to us.

Thank you for helping us turn hope into action and for being part of the promise.

📢 Superpower Activated! 💥

Yesterday, Leila led an amazing Empowering Young Changemakers Workshop, helping young leaders discover their strengths, confidence, and power to make a difference! 💜

The room was full of energy as the youth reflected, shared, and embraced their unique superpowers. Seeing them step into their confidence was everything!

REMEMBER: You already have what it takes to change the world!

Our trip to Harper, Liberia in January was deeply personal. We went to honor the life of our grandmother and great-grandmother, whom we lovingly called “Daughter.” Harper was a place Daughter spoke of often. A place filled with memories, history, and deep connections.

Leila wanted to do something in her great-grandmother’s memory. With love and intention, we put together 145 packages for the students at Nathan Barnes Elementary School, a school that meant so much to Daughter. Each package included a drawstring backpack, notebooks, and snacks. Small gifts, but ones that brought big smiles.

The students were overjoyed to receive the gifts from “Sis Leila,” and Leila was equally excited to give back in honor of her great-grandmother’s legacy. This act of service wasn’t just about the supplies. It was about continuing a spirit of generosity, education, and community.

Leila’s Promise remains committed to uplifting and supporting youth, wherever we go. This moment in Harper was a powerful reminder that even the smallest gestures of kindness can create lasting impact.
