SAE Indiana was proud to help present the 2026 Louis Schwitzer Award and celebrate a memorable day of engineering, innovation, and motorsports tradition on May 16 during the Indy500 month.

The day began with a special Ride & Drive session at Allison Transmission, where attendees had the opportunity to experience hands-on innovation up close. In the afternoon, guests joined us for the Indy 500 qualifying round session, adding even more excitement to a day already filled with great energy and connection. The evening concluded with the 60th Louis Schwitzer Award Banquet, where we celebrated excellence in motorsports engineering.

Congratulations to Andrea Bongiovanni and Dominic Coffey of Dallara, recipients of the 2026 Louis Schwitzer Award, for their work on Tire Ramp Flaps, a passive safety innovation now adopted by the NTT INDYCAR SERIES to help reduce the risk of cars becoming airborne.

We are grateful to our co-sponsors, Allison Transmission and Valvoline, for their partnership and support. We also appreciate everyone who joined us to celebrate the strong connection between engineering excellence, motorsports history, and the Indianapolis 500.

Thank you to all who helped make the 60th Louis Schwitzer Award Banquet such a special event. We look forward to continuing this tradition of recognizing the engineers whose ideas shape the sport.

Thanks to Brett Walker, M.S. ECE and Anand Nageswaran Bharath for sharing the pictures.

Our 4th Annual Engineers’ Week Networking Event was a fantastic evening of connection, collaboration, and community.

Hosted at Centerpoint Brewing Company, the event brought together engineers and students from across Indiana to learn more about what our professional societies have planned for the year ahead. Representatives from SAE, AIAA, and IEEE shared upcoming events, opportunities, and ways to get involved.

During the event, our SAE Indiana Chair, Tara Travis, introduced our section and highlighted the exciting programs and activities we have planned for 2026. Her overview set the tone for a year focused on engagement, professional growth, and meaningful connections.

We appreciate everyone who attended and contributed to great conversations throughout the evening. Engineers’ Week is always a reminder of the strength of our professional community and the value of staying involved.

If you missed this event, we encourage you to follow SAE Indiana and our website (https://www.saeindiana.org/) and stay connected for upcoming programs and networking opportunities.

See you in the next one!
