What happens when stories of war, sexual violence and loss enter the frame? And how can cinema make space for these experiences without turning survivors into the stories of what happened to them?

In the second meeting of DokuTalks, filmmaker Alisa Kovalenko, activist and human rights advocate Dr. Feride Rush*ti, filmmaker Karla Condado and scholar Eralda L. Lameborshi, moderated by film scholar Sanjin Pejković, came together to discuss silence, testimony, memory and absence, and the responsibility that comes with transforming personal loss into public memory.

From survivors breaking their silence in Ukraine and Kosovo, to a filmmaker writing a letter to a woman whose life was cut short in Mexico, the conversation explored what remains visible, what remains unsaid, and how cinema can hold space for both.

Because sometimes, what is missing from the frame is part of the story too.

As Dokufest marks its 25th anniversary, we invite you to join us at for "After Silence: Film, Testimony and Justice after Conflict-Related Sexual Violence", a conversation bringing together filmmakers, survivors' advocates and practitioners from Kosovo, Ukraine and Mexico to explore how film can amplify testimony, preserve memory and contribute to justice.

At the intersection of cinema, human rights and transitional justice, this discussion asks what happens after survivors speak, how stories can challenge silence, and how film can create spaces for recognition, accountability and collective reflection.

Women Journalists in Conflict-Sensitive Reporting: Julijana Mojsilović Shares Her Frontline Experience

As part of the regional podcast series Women Journalists in Conflict-Sensitive Reporting, Pro Peace, in cooperation with the Independent Journalists' Association of Vojvodina (NDNV), presents a conversation with renowned Serbian journalist Julijana Mojsilović.

A Belgrade-based journalist with decades of professional experience, Julijana Mojsilović reported on the wars that marked the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia while working for the international news agencies Reuters and the Associated Press (AP). She covered every major conflict across the region—from Slovenia and Croatia to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo—reporting directly from the field, often under dangerous and highly demanding conditions, including during Operation Storm ("Oluja").

In this episode, Julijana reflects on the realities of reporting from conflict and post-conflict environments, offering a unique perspective shaped by years of frontline journalism. She discusses the challenges women journalists face while covering armed conflicts, including safety risks, ethical dilemmas, emotional resilience, and the responsibility of reporting accurately and sensitively on issues that continue to affect communities long after violence ends.

The conversation also explores the importance of conflict-sensitive journalism in promoting understanding, preserving historical memory, and contributing to dialogue and reconciliation. Drawing from her own experience, Julijana shares practical advice and valuable lessons for the next generation of journalists interested in reporting on conflict and peacebuilding.

This episode is part of the regional initiative Women Journalists in Conflict-Sensitive Reporting, implemented by Pro Peace together with media partners across the Western Balkans. The videocast series amplifies the voices of women journalists who have reported on conflict and post-conflict issues, highlighting their experiences, professional challenges, and contributions to ethical, gender-sensitive, and peace-oriented journalism. To ensure accessibility across the region and beyond, all episodes are produced in the participants' local languages and include English subtitles, making these stories and perspectives available to an international audience.
