“You are the salt of the earth.” – Matthew 5:13

As this week comes to an end, may we remember that our words, actions, and attitudes can make a difference in the lives of others. Just as salt preserves and adds flavor, God calls us to bring hope, kindness, and integrity wherever we are. May we remain faithful to our purpose and continue to shine His love in a world that needs it.

Wishing everyone a blessed and peaceful weekend.

We believe every child deserves to learn in a safe, inclusive, and resilient school environment.

In May, our Strengthening Resilience in Vanuatu Schools project successfully delivered two 4-day trainings on School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (SBDRR) and Education in Emergencies (EiE) from 5–8 May and 18–21 May 2026, in partnership with Ministry of Education & Training, Vanuatu .

The workshops brought together school principals, teachers, handymen, and school council representatives from 19 schools across Malekula to strengthen school preparedness and resilience. Participating schools included: Lakatoro Junior Secondary School, Collège de Norsup, Tautu Primary School, Lingarak Primary School, Vinmavis Primary School, Lamboubou School, Rensarie College, Orap School, Notre Dame School, Velow School, Saint-Thérèse School, Matanvat School, Saint-Louis School, Uripiv School, Topaen School, Neramb School, Chenard School, Wora School, and Leviamp School.

This work is possible through the support of the European Union in the Pacific through UNICEF Pacific, the training supports schools in creating safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for every child.

Participants gained practical skills in:
-Hazard mapping and risk assessments
-Emergency drills and simulations
-Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
-School grant management and preventative maintenance
-Developing School Disaster Management Plans

Having already reached schools in Shefa and Sanma provinces, this initiative now continues to strengthen resilience across Malampa Province, helping schools better prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters.

We are proud to partner with the Vanuatu Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (DARD) in supporting the Small Island Mini Agriculture Show currently happening on Tongoariki in the Shepherds Group, to promote sustainable agriculture, food security, and improved nutrition for island communities.

Through this partnership, a range of vegetable seeds—including cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, dwarf beans, and long yard beans—have been provided to support 200 farmers in growing diverse and nutritious crops for their families and communities.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our generous donors, Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade , New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Irish Aid and AID, whose support makes initiatives like this possible. Your contribution is helping strengthen agricultural resilience, improve food security, and create healthier futures for communities across the Shepherds Group.

Together with DARD, we remain committed to empowering local farmers and building stronger, more resilient communities.

Working together for stronger communities and healthier futures.

Meet Mele, from Demtal Community, Motalava Island, who joined her community's Inclusive Savings for Transformation (IS4T) group in 2024. As a grandmother of three and a church leader, she was determined to create a better future for her family.

Through regular savings, access to loans, and the group's first share-out, Mele expanded her small canteen business, increasing her daily income and strengthening her family's financial security. One of her proudest achievements was using her earnings to build a new flush toilet for her household, improving sanitation, hygiene, and health for her family, especially her grandchildren.

The increased income has also helped her better meet household needs and plan for the future. Through the IS4T group, Mele has gained confidence in managing her finances and achieving goals that once seemed out of reach. The savings group has also helped her family become more prepared for emergencies and disasters by providing a financial safety net that can be accessed when unexpected challenges arise.

"The savings group has helped me improve my family's living conditions. Building a proper toilet means my grandchildren can grow up in a cleaner and healthier environment." – Mele.

Mele believes the IS4T program is helping many families in her community save money, access opportunities, prepare for difficult times, and improve their livelihoods. Her story is a reminder that small savings, when combined with determination and support, can create lasting change for families and future generations.

This work is made possible through the support of the Australian Humanitarian Partnership , funded by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

From Small Beginnings to Community Impact!

Charley, from Merelava Island in Torba Province, first connected with World Vision Vanuatu in 2020 through skills training. Inspired by lessons on entrepreneurship and self-reliance, he started small with a fish pond business and handicraft production.

In 2025, Charley joined the Islanders Savings Group through the Inclusive Savings for Transformation (IS4T) programme implemented as part of our Eco CARE Project activities. Through regular savings and access to small loans, he expanded his business activities, purchasing handicrafts from women in Mere lava, selling them in Sola, and creating new market opportunities for local producers.

Today, Charley owns several small businesses, including a restaurant and fuel resale business, and has built a bungalow on his home island. His growing income helps support his family with school fees, food, and daily needs, while also creating economic opportunities for others in his community.

"IS4T savings from WVV have changed my life and supported my family back on the island," says Charley.

Now serving as an agent and Assistant Management Committee member for the Islanders Savings Group, Charley is helping others strengthen their livelihoods and build resilience to economic and climate-related challenges.

His story shows that with determination, savings, and community support, small beginnings can lead to lasting change. Thank you to New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the support to help us support people like Charley.

As we begin a new week, may we remember the words of Jesus:

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." (Matthew 5:7–9)

In a world that often rewards power, competition, and self-interest, Christ calls us to a different path—a path of mercy, sincerity, and peace. This week, let us choose kindness over judgment, integrity over pretense, and reconciliation over conflict.

Jesus is teaching that believers should not hide their faith, gifts, or good works. Just as a lamp is placed where it can shine and help others, people are meant to let their lives reflect God’s truth and goodness openly so others may benefit.

To commemorate World Environment Day, we are excited to share the summary poster of an important piece of work that World Vision Vanuatu has been undertaking with peri-urban communities in Port Vila and Lugainville through the Urban Climate Resilience Project (UCRP) and the NOURISH Project.

As climate change continues to impact vulnerable communities across Vanuatu, this initiative has worked alongside local communities to identify climate risks, strengthen resilience, and develop locally led solutions that respond to the realities people face every day. From food security and nutrition to environmental sustainability and disaster preparedness, communities have been at the centre of shaping adaptation actions that are practical, inclusive, and sustainable.

This work was recently showcased at the 20th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change (CBA20), which brought together practitioners, grassroots representatives, local and national government planners, policymakers, researchers, and donors from around the world. The conference provided a valuable platform to exchange knowledge, share lessons, and discuss how we can collectively drive ambition for a climate-resilient future.

The experiences and voices of peri-urban communities in Port Vila demonstrate the importance of locally led adaptation and the power of communities to design solutions that strengthen resilience for current and future generations.

Grateful for the support of the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through ANCP, Irish Aid and AID. Together, let us continue to be inspired by nature as we work towards a more climate-resilient and sustainable future for all.
