๐Ÿ“ข CIVIC EDUCATION IN SANTO
During the last week of September, Transparency International Vanuatuโ€™s Civic Education team and partners visited schools and communities across Santo and took part in the Sanma Provincial Day celebrations.
The team shared information with students and the public about Vanuatuโ€™s Constitution, corruption, and why voting matters. Awareness booklets were also distributed to schools and youth groups to support learning and discussion.
Every Ni-Vanuatu has a role in decision-making. By understanding our rights and responsibilities and taking part in elections we can help shape our communities and our country. ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡บ

TIV PROMOTES VOTER EDUCATION ON WEST AMBRYM | 22โ€“29 SEPTEMBER 2026
Transparency International Vanuatu (TIV) is raising awareness in West Ambrym about the importance and power of every vote. Low voter turnout and vote-buying remain challenges, while the area currently has no MP or Provincial Councilors.
TIV CEO Dr. Willie Tokon visited West Ambrym to encourage people to participate in elections and choose candidates who demonstrate honesty, integrity, transparency, fairness and a commitment to good governance.
Your vote matters! Use it to help shape your communityโ€™s future.

Marking the International Day of Democracy, Transparency International Vanuatu recently joined a regional webinar hosted by UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji and the Open Government Partnership.

With the vital support and partnership of the UNDP Vanuatu Electoral Environment Project (VEEP III), TIVโ€™s participation was made possible, focusing a global spotlight on how civic and voter education can strengthen public trust in democratic governance.

Representing Vanuatu, Richard Patterson shared key insights on collaborating with national institutionsโ€”including the Vanuatu Electoral Office, Right to Information Unit, and the Ombudsman Officeโ€”to empower citizens with the tools for active democratic engagement.

By building stronger channels for accountability, this joint initiative highlights how informed citizens and responsive institutions can co-create inclusive, trusted governance.

Transparency International Vanuatu held its official observer briefing yesterday for staff and volunteers who will be deployed on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, to observe the Port Vila Municipal Elections. Their role is to monitor the event, document actions, and identify areas for improvement to promote fairness and transparency in future elections. This is not the first time TIV has been involved in election observation, as we remain committed to supporting authorities and the citizens of Vanuatu in ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process.
