Chúng tôi vui mừng thông báo về quan hệ đối tác mới giữa Swim For Life và Mitrade Foundation nhằm hỗ trợ các nỗ lực phòng chống đuối nước trẻ em tại tỉnh Quảng Trị, Việt Nam. 😊

Mitrade Foundation đã tài trợ một khoản ngân sách cho giai đoạn tiếp theo trong chuỗi các hoạt động giáo dục an toàn nước và phòng chống đuối nước của chúng tôi, và công tác lập kế hoạch chương trình hiện đang được khẩn trương tiến hành.

Mitrade Foundation được thành lập để hỗ trợ phát triển cộng đồng, giáo dục và các chương trình nhân đạo và bền vững thông qua các quan hệ đối tác địa phương. Sự hỗ trợ của Quỹ phản ánh niềm tin chung rằng các hành động thiết thực, dựa vào cộng đồng có thể giúp bảo vệ sinh mạng và tạo ra tác động lâu dài.

Thông qua mối quan hệ đối tác này, Swim for Life có kế hoạch hỗ trợ giáo dục an toàn nước cho trẻ em trong độ tuổi đi học, tăng cường năng lực cho giáo viên dạy bơi và cộng đồng địa phương, đồng thời cung cấp các thiết bị an toàn thiết thực như biển cảnh báo, áo phao và cặp phao cho trẻ em có nguy cơ đuối nước cao nhất. 🏊🏻🏊🏻

Đuối nước vẫn là một trong những nguy cơ nghiêm trọng mà trẻ em Việt Nam đang phải đối mặt nhưng có thể phòng ngừa được. Từ năm 2014, Swim for Life đã làm việc với các đối tác địa phương ở miền Trung Việt Nam để giúp trẻ em, giáo viên, các gia đình và cộng đồng hiểu rõ các rủi ro liên quan đến nguồn nước và hình thành các thói quen an toàn hơn khi ở gần sông, kênh, ao, hồ và các khu vực dễ bị ngập lụt.🌊🌊

Mitrade Foundation official has generously sponsored the next phase of our water safety education and drowning prevention activities, with program planning now underway.

Mitrade Foundation was established to support community development, education, sustainability, and humanitarian programs through local partnerships. Its support reflects a shared belief that practical, community-based action can help protect lives and create long-term impact.

Through this partnership, Swim for Life plans to support water safety education for school-aged children, strengthen local instructor and community capacity, and provide practical safety equipment such as warning signs, life jackets, and floating backpacks for children most at risk.🏊🏻🏊🏻

Drowning remains one of the most serious and preventable risks facing children in Vietnam. Since 2014, Swim for Life has worked with local partners in Central Vietnam to help children, teachers, families, and communities understand water-related risks and develop safer habits around rivers, canals, ponds, and flood-prone areas.🌊🌊

Our recent program assessment confirms that Swim for Life Vietnam’s integrated approach is central to our impact.

Swimming instruction, water safety education, and community communication work best when they are delivered together. This combination helps create comprehensive changes in skills, knowledge, and behavior.

The evaluation also highlighted key lessons:

- Schools are the core delivery mechanism.
- School-based implementation improves access, reduces cost barriers, and supports sustainability beyond the project period.

- Community engagement drives sustainable behavior change.
- Parents, schools, and communities all play a role, supported by practical tools such as life jackets and warning signs.

- Institutionalization is a key enabler.
- Integrating drowning prevention into provincial action plans and policy directives helps sustain progress.

- Schools can further strengthen impact.
- By integrating swimming instruction and water safety education into physical education curricula, ensuring year-round operation of swimming pools, strengthening school-parent coordination, and applying standardized tools to assess student competencies.

- Drowning prevention is not a one-time activity!
- It works best when it becomes part of the system.

The external evaluation of Swim for Life showed overwhelmingly positive results, and identified challenges that must be addressed to protect long-term effectiveness and sustainability.

Infrastructure remains one of the biggest issues.

In Northern and Central Vietnam, cooler temperatures mean many portable swimming pools at schools or in communities operate seasonally, usually 5–6 months per year. This limits use and creates maintenance challenges for pools and related infrastructure.

Swim for Life works with local and commune-level authorities to identify practical solutions. These may include cooperative agreements for access to private indoor swimming facilities at resorts and hotels, or support for local governments planning improved swimming facilities.

Warning signs are another challenge. Approximately 40% of signs installed at high-risk water sites during the study period have either washed away during seasonal flooding or deteriorated due to lack of regular maintenance
Swim for Life continues to work with grassroots organizations and ward and commune leaders to encourage sustainable maintenance of warning signs.

The results are strong. The need for continued investment remains urgent.

A recent external evaluation of Swim for Life has confirmed the scale of what sustained drowning prevention can achieve.

The assessment reviewed the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation funded drowning prevention program across six districts of the former Quang Binh Province from 2021 to 2025.

During this period, Swim for Life Vietnam facilitated or provided:

• 5,071 Free swimming lessons for disadvantaged children
• 640 life jackets and floating backpacks for children in high-risk flood-prone areas
• 330 communications boards in schools and community common areas
• 72 warning signs in high-risk areas
• ... and water safety education for 22,415 school-aged children

These are not just program numbers. They represent children reached, schools strengthened, families informed, and communities better prepared to prevent drowning.

🌍 HỘI THẢO QUỐC TẾ VỀ KỸ NĂNG BƠI CƠ BẢN VÀ AN TOÀN DƯỚI NƯỚC
Từ ngày 4 – 8/ 5/2026, Hội thảo quốc tế về Kỹ năng bơi cơ bản trong bối cảnh nguồn lực hạn chế đã diễn ra tại thành phố Huế, Việt Nam, tổ chức Hiệp hội Cứu hộ Hoàng gia Anh (RNLI), Lifeboats, Hue Help, Tổ chức Y tế Thế giới (WHO) và sáng kiến Commonwealth về phòng chống đuối nước phối hợp tổ chức.

✨ Sự kiện quy tụ 55 đại biểu đến từ 25 quốc gia, bao gồm bao gồm các nhà lãnh đạo, chuyên gia, nhà nghiên cứu và đại diện tổ chức trong lĩnh vực phòng chống đuối nước cùng chung mục tiêu: Cứu sống nhiều người người thông qua công tác phòng chống đuối nước.
Swim for Life (SFL), thuộc Tổ chức nhân đạo Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, có sự tham dự của Bà Đặng Thị Hải Yến, Quản lý Chương trình, Ông Lê Bảo Trung, Cán bộ Kỹ thuật, và Bà Nguyễn Thị Na, Cán bộ Chương trình.

🤝 Hội thảo nhằm mục đích tăng cường kiến thức, kỹ năng và sự hợp tác quốc tế để triển khai các chương trình bơi cơ bản và an toàn dưới nước trong điều kiện nguồn lực hạn chế. Đây là cơ hội tuyệt vời để các đại biểu tham gia học hỏi, chia sẻ kinh nghiệm với các chuyên gia quốc tế, kết nối đồng nghiệp và nâng cao năng lực chuyên môn thông qua các buổi hội thảo kỹ thuật, thảo luận nhóm và thực hành tại bể bơi và bãi biển.

🌍 INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON BASIC SWIMMING SKILLS AND WATER SAFETY
The International Workshop on Basic Swimming Skills in Low-Resource Settings recently took place in Hue city, Vietnam, organized by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Hue Help, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Commonwealth Drowning Prevention initiative.

✨ The Workshop brought together 55 delegates from 25 countries, all working in drowning prevention, and all united by a shared mission: saving lives through drowning prevention.

🤝 The workshop focused upon strengthening knowledge, skills, and collaboration for delivering basic swimming & water safety programs.

Swim for Life (SFL), a part of Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, was represented by Ms. Dang Thi Hai Yen, Program Manager, Le Bao Trung, Technical Staff, and Nguyen Thi Na, Program Officer.

It was a great opportunity for our team, and all participants, to learn from international experts, share best practices, network with peers, and enhance their professional capacity through technical sessions, group discussions, and hands-on training at swimming pools and beach sites.

Mới đây, Tổ chức Chiến dịch vì Trẻ em Không Thuốc lá Hoa Kỳ (CTFK) đã cùng Bộ Y tế Việt Nam, chính quyền địa phương và các tổ chức địa phương tổ chức “Hội nghị chuyển giao kết quả Dự án Phòng, chống đuối nước trẻ em, giai đoạn 2018 – 2025” tại Hà Nội, do tổ chức Bloomberg Philanthropies tài trợ.
Đây là thành quả của tám năm hợp tác, đổi mới, đã tạo nên một chương trình bơi an toàn tại Việt Nam mang tầm quốc tế.
Qua chặng đường 8 năm thực hiện, Dự án đã mang lại những kết quả sau:
✔️ Hơn 400.000 trẻ em được đào tạo tại 17 tỉnh thành có tỷ lệ đuối nước cao
✔️ Giảm 16% tỷ lệ đuối nước tại các khu vực can thiệp.
Với vai trò là đối tác chính của CTFK giai đoạn 2022-2025, Swim for Life Vietnam (SFL), thuộc Tổ chức Nhân đạo Golden West, đã chung tay cùng CTFK viết nên một hành trình phòng chống đuối nước trẻ em đầy ý nghĩa tại tỉnh Quảng Trị.

Recently, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK) joined the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, local authorities and local organizations celebrated “The transition ceremony of Child Drowning Prevention Program in Vietnam, period 2018- 2025” in Hanoi, supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies.

It’s the culmination of eight years of collaboration, innovation and data-driven systems that have created a world class program, with the incredible accomplishment:

✔️ 400,000+ children trained across 17 high-burden provinces

✔️ 16% reduction in drowning rates in intervention areas

As CTFK's key partner from 2022 to 2025, Swim for Life Vietnam (SFL), a part of the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, has been honored to partner with CTFK on our shared mission to protect children from drowning in Quang Tri province.
