The idea is simple: one country’s trash (or unread books) is another’s treasure. While the world’s more developed places are coming to terms with the negative effects of accumulation and trying to simplify, places like Vietnam want the very things these advanced economies take for granted. ls, tell them what we’re working towards, and ask if they have any quality books they aren’t using and would like to see in the hands of people who would appreciate them (and give us to them for free). There are plenty of no’s, but we occasionally get a yes – from awesome donors like art mag Cabinet Magazine, the DiTKO! Zine Library, the Barnard College Zine Library, Korean children’s book publisher Sowonnamu and graffiti book publisher, artist and educator David Villorente.
