Virgin Islands Olympic Committee joins Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation, the Virgin Islands community, and the Olympic Community in mourning the Passing of Ronald E. Russell - Former VITFF President and two time Track and Field Olympian (Los Angeles 1984 and Montreal 1976, 100 meter athletics).

The Virgin Islands Track & Field Federation extends its deepest condolences on the passing of Ronald E. Russell, a distinguished athlete, leader, and lifelong ambassador for sport in the U.S. Virgin Islands. His loss is felt profoundly across our athletic community and throughout the wider territory.
Ronald Russell was among the earliest pioneers of Virgin Islands track and field, representing the territory with honor at the highest levels of international competition, including the 1976 and 1984 Olympic Games, multiple Pan American Games, and regional championships across the Caribbean and the Americas. His achievements on the track helped establish the Virgin Islands as a respected presence in global athletics.
Beyond his competitive career, Mr. Russell served the sport with dedication and integrity. As a former President of the Virgin Islands Track & Field Federation, he worked to strengthen athlete development, expand opportunities for youth, and uphold the standards of excellence that define our federation today. His leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of Virgin Islands athletes leave a lasting legacy.
