🖐️ Talk to the hand… because these young engineers are building one! 🤖

It was hands-on engineering at its best as our students Claude O. Markoe Elementary School designed their own working prosthetic arm models using simple materials like paper, straws, and string. ✂️🧵

First came the tracing and cutting. Then came the tricky part- figuring out how to make the fingers move! Students marked the joints, carefully threaded each finger, and tested their designs to see if their homemade prosthetic arms could actually work.

With every pull, adjustment, and “let’s try that again,” students were putting engineering, problem-solving, creativity, and fine motor skills to work. 🧠⚙️
Most importantly, they were getting a glimpse into how prosthetic technology can help people who have lost a limb regain movement and independence. 💙

⏰ SHOW UP! READY TO LEARN!

And our students at Claude O. Markoe Elementary School, Ricardo Richards Elementary School, Pearl B. Larsen PreK8 School, Eulalie R. Rivera PreK-8 School, and Arthur A. Richards definitely showed up for this one! 🙌🏽📚

Ms. Yaunika Milligan Joseph had students learning an attendance chant:
“SHOW UP!
READY TO LEARN!
BE ON TIME!
EVERY TIME!
EVERY MINUTE MATTERS!
EVERY STUDENT COUNTS!” 👏🏽
Then came the fun part! 👀

Some students stepped outside to pretend they were arriving late, while their classmates stayed inside learning the chant. When everyone came back together, students experienced firsthand how even a few missed minutes can mean missing important instructions, learning, connections—and fun!

Students also created their own “Plan to Show Up,” thinking about how they can prepare for school, what they can do if they miss a day, and one reason they want to show up. 🎒✏️

The response? Smiles, laughter, enthusiasm—and a message that clearly stuck! 💙

Students could even be heard chanting “SHOW UP! READY TO LEARN! BE ON TIME! EVERY TIME!” as they headed home! 🗣️👏🏽
A heartfelt THANK YOU to Ms. Milligan Joseph for effectively delivering such an important and much-needed message to our students. Her ability to make attendance relatable, interactive, and memorable gave students more than something to hear—it gave them something to think about and put into action.

📣⏰ EVERY MINUTE COUNTS. EVERY STUDENT MATTERS!

Attendance matters—and Ms. Yaunika Milligan Joseph, St. Croix Central High School’s 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year, found a way to make that message relatable, engaging, and fun for our Operation Inspire students! 🌟📚

Students from Claude O. Markoe Elementary School, Ricardo Richards Elementary School, Pearl B. Larsen PreK8 School, Eulalie R. Rivera PreK-8 School, and Arthur A. Richards took part in her “Show Up and Show Out” attendance campaign.

Instead of simply telling students why attendance matters, Ms. Milligan Joseph got them thinking with questions connected to things they already love:

📺 Would you miss your favorite TV show?
🎂 Your birthday party?
🏀 Your big game?
The answer was a very enthusiastic NO! 😂

From there, she challenged students to make the connection: If you wouldn’t want to miss the things you love, why miss school?

We loved the way Ms. Milligan Joseph turned an important conversation into an experience that students could immediately understand and relate to. 💙

Her energy, creativity, and ability to connect with students made this much-needed message one they could truly hear—and enjoy!
