A HUGE THANK YOU to the District Court of the VI Division Saint Thomas, Law Enforcement Coordinators, the Assistant United States Attorney, and the Supervisory LAS-Victim Witness Coordinator at the Office of the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of the Virgin Islands for bringing justice to Project VI Wise!
Seven years later, with your contribution of professionalism and dedication, our sustainable building project was able to happen.
Also, thank you to the Saint Thomas Source for sharing our journey with the public from beginning to end.

It brings me immense joy to let the world know that VI Wise is ending successfully!
We are partnering with the Virgin Islands Surfing Federation, donating $10,000.00 for the rebuilding of Ezra Fredericks Ballpark, specifically to aid in its transformation into a Skate & Bike Park.
These funds will support the restoration of the dugout, converting it into a shade structure for the community. With sustainability as a valued priority, all our building materials are LEED Certified. The roofing shingles are crafted from 100% post-consumer plastics sourced from the automotive industry, and the benches will be made from 100% recycled plastic. Preservation and reuse are crucial elements in fostering sustainability, and we are excited to be apart of this important public initiative.
Additionally, Project VI Wise would like to acknowledge the generous donations from companies and individuals that have made this project possible. It is through these collective efforts that we are able to make a positive impact in the community.

VI WISE is a grass-roots project that represents contribution, community strength and hope. The project aims to introduce sustainable design practices to communities in the Caribbean Islands while being a leader in the way we reconsider how to deal with waste.
The roofing material is made from 100% recycled plastics from the automotive industry. As we build back from the destruction of Hurricane Irma & Maria, VI WISE wants to demonstrate how to do so progressively— which we believe starts with Green Design.
In addition to being environmentally friendly, a fundamental priority of VI WISE is to represent a product that ensures safety to the consumer by passing the most stringent Building Codes for hurricane winds in the country, is cost effective for the public and is applicable to the environmental factors of the Caribbean.
Our immediate goal is to donate roofing material to the Family Resource Center— an organization we want to recognize for their benevolent actions within the community over the last 30 years!
VI Wise roofing shingles are made from 100% recycled plastics from the automotive industry.
Shingles should be installed on a sloped roof structure no less that 4/12 pitch (33.3%).
Shingles should be installed one piece at a time.
Shingles come with molden identification marks allowing for simple positioning placement and installation for textured exposures ranging from 6” to maximum of 7.5”. Exposure positioning will depend on roof pitch and local climatic conditions, as well as owners personal preferences.
Shingles are extremely durable, long lasting and come with a 50-year transferable warranty.
Kimberly Shumaker started VI WISE after Hurricane Irma and Maria devastated the Caribbean. Living on St. Thomas between 2012-2016 and bartending at Morning Star Beach, Kimberly was often distressed about that fact that 100% of the products she worked with were recyclable materials that every night were being taken to the local landfill. During these years, she spent time researching ways the community could collect and redirect the waste on St. Thomas to one day turn them into building materials she was interested in, such as, flooring, countertops and wall panels. Having earned an Interior Design degree from San Diego State University, there has been plenty of exposure to Green Design in her life which provided optimism that things on island could be different!
When the Hurricanes hit in 2017, the photographer Savannah Goodman captured an image of all the homes covered in blue tarps due to damage from the fierce winds and the devastation inspired Kimberly to step up for some hurricane relief! She decided to combine her research and passion for Green Design with the immediate building needs of the island— roofing material.
VI WISE proudly partnered with a manufactuer making hurricane rated roofing material made of 100% recycled plastic from the automotive industry.
