Local farmers work hard day in and day out to keep up with the necessary agriculture needs. Soil for example can be especially challenging..⠀

The islands are dominated by what's called caliche soils, rock fragments and fine-grained sediments that become “cemented” together by mineral particles. This soil type creates problems of ❌️ poor⠀
drainage, ❌️ poor growth conditions for crops, and ❌️ other production issues. Thus creating more and more work everyday to keep up with. 👎⠀

We're grateful to every farmer 🧑‍🌾👩‍🌾 locally who works so hard to continue to bring us fresh fruits 🍓 and vegetables 🫑.⠀

Did you know...

99% of foods on the VI have to be imported from the mainland? 😢

Part of the cause we're working towards is giving more farmers (current and hopefully new ones too!) the ability to have clean water and clean farms to be able to grow fresh foods and pass them along to the residents, restaurants and stores of the islands.

We're in this together! 🙂🙌
