The Romeo Malone Community Center
The Romeo Malone Community Center is a community center located in the heart of Savan on the island of St.Thomas. This community center houses a Head Start Program managed by the USVI Department of Human Services as well as community outreach and educational programs managed by Community Action NOW! dba Savaneros United NOW!.
The center was named after Mr. Romeo A. Malone.
Romeo A. Malone is a native Virgin Islander, having been born in St. Thomas and having lived, hunted and fished in the islands all his life. After serving in World War II, Malone set about continuing his interrupted education. He graduated from drafting and electrical school in 1948, and from the Commercial Institute in Chicago in 1950, as an accomplished Mechanic and Architectural Draftsman. During years of construction and contracting work, Mr. Malone was always also a writer. He has received a playwriting award, is a published poet and an accomplished artist. Mr. Malone was Chairman of the Savan Development Organization.
He is a strong advocate of a balanced environment; both developer and preserver lie within him. Mr. Malone's other works include Salona Travis in the Virgin Islands, The Stinger Jack Spaniel and The Savanaro.
