Fire fighters put their lives on the line every day, and the dangers don’t end when the fire is out. Research continues to show that repeated exposure to toxins on the job can significantly increase the risk of Parkinson’s Disease among fire fighters.

Senator Jim Banks and Senator Andy Kim have introduced the bipartisan Parkinson’s Protection for Firefighters Act to recognize Parkinson’s Disease as a job related illness for federal fire fighters.

Backed by the International Association of Fire Fighters, the bill would help fire fighters get quicker access to medical benefits, reduce red tape, and ease the financial and emotional strain on families while members focus on treatment and recovery.

Indiana has been one of the leaders in recognizing Parkinson’s as a presumptive illness for fire fighters, and this legislation is another step toward protecting those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

Today at the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana 50th state convention, our local leadership was honored to have our District Vice President introduce our Mayor Matt Gentry as a featured guest speaker.

Our leadership spoke about the importance of strong working relationships between elected officials, administrative chiefs, and union leadership. When everyone works toward the same goals - improving firefighters health, safety, and benefits - the entire community benefits and becomes safer.

We were also proud to highlight the successful implementation of our merit board, a major step forward in promoting fairness, professionalism, accountability, and long term stability within our department.

Finally we discussed the progress being made toward our first collective bargaining agreement with the city and the positive impact it will have for our firefighters, department, and the community for years to come.

The Boone County Professional Firefighters Association is proud to officially endorse Tonya Thayer for Center Township Trustee.

As union firefighters and as members of the Lebanon District, we are excited for the opportunity to work alongside Tonya Thayer in advancing the shared goals of health, safety, and benefits for all firefighters across Boone County. Tonya has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety, exceptional community service, and has proven she has what it takes to bring departments together in support of the men and women who serve our communities every day.

Tonya understands that protecting our community starts with supporting the first responders who protect it. Her dedication to ensuring the best possible resources, benefits, and safety standards for firefighters makes her the clear choice for Center Township Trustee.

If you believe in supporting a candidate who stands with union firefighters and is committed to strengthening public safety in our county, we encourage you to give Tonya Thayer your support and vote this election.

Great to see this project moving forward—this is exactly what happens when elected officials take a forward-thinking approach to both the growth of the area and the long-term needs of its citizens. This station isn’t just about today, it’s about building something that will serve this community for decades to come.

The impact here is real. This station will directly improve the health and safety of our residents by reducing response times and cutting down on travel distances for firefighters, which also enhances their safety on every call. That means faster, more professional service when it matters most.

As a union, we’re extremely fortunate to have leadership that not only supports us, but truly understands that investing in firefighters is investing in the community as a whole. This is what forward thinking looks like.

Last weekend, the Lebanon Professional Firefighters had the privilege of helping provide and serve meals for burn survivors and their families at the HBC Spring Family Outing held at Dull’s Tree Farm.

Spending time with these individuals and their loved ones is always a humbling experience. Their strength and perseverance continue to inspire us, and it’s an honor to support such a tight-knit and uplifting community.

We’re thankful for the opportunity to be involved and extend our appreciation to everyone who helped make the event a success. 🔥
