A good day in Zionsville parks: sun, 70s and soda!

We enjoyed walking in the nice weather and grabbing something at the new concession stand at Mulberry Fields.

As we walked on the trails, we are very thankful to have been mostly spared by adverse weather. Our hearts go out to our neighbors in Indianapolis, Hamilton County and other parts of the state who are dealing with the devastating impact of flooding on their homes, businesses and parks.

As we head into the last week of National Parks and Recreation Month, let’s reflect on how important parks are to us.

In a recent survey of Zionsville residents, 88% of respondents are very satisfied or satisfied with the quality and quantity of our parks and open spaces.

82% would like to see additional parks in Zionsville’s future.

78% would like to see improvements to existing parks.

The Zionsville Parks Foundation works hard to advocate for our parks and investments in maintaining and improving them. We hope you join us in these efforts.

The Power of Connection

Parks and recreation counter social isolation by connecting people with nature and each other through festivals, social events and educational programming.

In a recent Indiana survey, compared to residents who visited parks a few times a year, residents who visited more frequently were 1.6 to 2.5 times more likely to report better social, family, physical and mental health.

Part 2 of celebrating National Parks and Recreation Professional Day!

Today the Zionsville Parks Foundation shared treats and gifts with the Nature Center and recreational programming staff.

This small but mighty group delivers incredible nature educational programming to all ages, runs summer camps, and plans and orchestrates meaningful community events which become treasured family traditions.

From insect jars and toy animals to fire pits and life size skeletons, we hope the community enjoys these additions to Zionsville Parks recreational programming.

We are so lucky to have these smart, committed, creative and kind recreational professionals dedicated to making Zionsville a great community.

Thanks to our donors who have made the Foundation’s shopping spree for parks and rec possible!

This morning was Part 1 of celebrating National Parks and Recreation Professionals Day!

Zionsville is extraordinarily lucky to have a fantastic group of full time and seasonal staff taking care of our parks and trails.

It was a fun morning hearing from our passionate, talented and committed professional staff - and expressing our gratitude for their dedication.

Thanks to our donors, the Zionsville Parks Foundation was able to gift the staff some items off their wish lists - tools that will help them serve our community better.

Come see us at the Zionsville Farmers Market this Saturday, July 25!

We will be giving away plugs of elm-leaved goldenrod (solidago ulifolia) as part of our mission to contribute vital native plants to our community.

Elm-leaved goldenrod is a well-behaved, clump-forming native with late summer yellow blooms. It is drought- and shade-tolerant.

Considered a keystone species, it supports over 90 different species of moth and butterfly caterpillars.

Visit our booth and take home one of these fantastic goldenrod plugs grown only by nurseries specializing in native plants. While supplies last!

We will also have a limited supply of our Celebrate Zionsville Parks & Trails yard signs.

We’d love to see you and chat about native plants and the Foundation’s mission!

The Zionsville Lions Club is proud to announce that Nancy and Jim Carpenter have been selected as the 2026 Zionsville Fall Festival Parade Grand Marshals!

For decades, Nancy and Jim have dedicated their time, talent, and generosity to making Zionsville an even better place to live. From growing Wild Birds Unlimited into an award-winning business to championing parks, conservation, and environmental education, their impact on our community is truly remarkable.

Their vision and commitment were instrumental in creating the Carpenter Nature Preserve, a breathtaking 215-acre wildlife sanctuary that will benefit generations to come. Through their leadership, philanthropy, and countless volunteer hours, they have helped preserve the natural beauty that makes Zionsville so special.

Whether they're planting native trees, building parade floats, mentoring community leaders, or inspiring others to care for our parks and wildlife, Nancy and Jim lead by example with humility, passion, and servant leadership.
