We are proud of you Kristen!Making a difference and changing lives for the better everyday.
Kristen Brown is a child abuse prevention hero! Kristen is from Zanesville Ohio. Kristen volunteered in the art community in Zanesville as the President of ArtCoz for 3 years helping promote the arts. She helped highlight new artists of all ages, organize events, and share her own art studio for artists to show their work for free. Kristen uses her bright, colorful and full of passion art to lift people up, while also keeping her own spirit alive. She loves to paint wings for people to stand in front of so that they can be uplifted and believe in themselves. She is a strong believer in equal rights, acceptance and being your unique self. Kristen's art studio is located at 605 Market Street, Suite 1 and is open during the First Friday ArtWalks and by appointment.
Making art, singing and helping people are her biggest joys. She has created murals in town at the Colony Square Mall, Zanes Landing Park Pavilion, Geminis Eclectic Emporium second floor, The Smile Shack and at the ZMHA James Singer Activity Center where she works. The kids and community helped paint the mural at James Singer Activity gym. Kristen sings in the band KLB & Co. with Connie Stoneburner, William Stoneburner and Roger Touvell, and they cover classic rock. They have played around town and are always open for new shows.
Kristen currently works at ZMHA as the Y.E.S. Coordinator (Youth Employment Services), working with lower income individuals age 16-24. She helps them with adult mentoring, financial literacy, reuniting them with their children, community resources, going back to school, scholarships, housing and developing the skills to be successful. Kristen feel very blessed because she is able to teach and encourage young adults to be their best selves and to use their talents to help them find out what they would like to do as a career. Kristen also assists with ZMHA resident services and the afterschool program.
Kristen believes that people, especially young people, need someone to listen to them and encourage them to keep going. "One person believing in us can be just the little bit of light to encourage us to keep going. I have always dealt with depression and art/music is what keeps my heart alive. Giving opportunity for individuals to find coping skills that bring them joy or share their passion is a contagious act. Positivity is contagious, just as negativity is." Thank you Kristen for the light you bring to our community!
