SYCF's grant program exists to back them up - organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Shady Creek Outdoor Education Foundation, who are out here making a difference every day.

Sutter Yuba Community Foundation board members Lisa Shelton and Linda Protine were pleased to present a $2,000 check to the Able Riders Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program Director Deneen Torres and instructor Stephanie Kaeskamp. These grant funds went directly toward the purchase of "Jin" who will be the newest addition to their therapy herd. Jin is a sweet, gentle soul who was previously a show jumping horse. His new role will be a simpler life helping special needs children.

🌟 SYCF Board Spotlight | Jim Kuphaldt

After 34 years in business, Jim didn't slow down - he leaned in.

Jim Kuphaldt is one of the dedicated volunteers serving on the SYCF Board of Directors. His connection to this foundation runs deep. After personally establishing a memorial scholarship through SYCF, he wanted to stay close to the work, making sure local students get the opportunities they deserve.

Outside of SYCF, Jim coordinates the Hope Point Bike Kitchen, repairing and giving away bikes and serving meals to people in need right here in Yuba-Sutter. He also volunteers in men's and children's ministries at Hope Point Nazarene Church.

When he's not giving back, you'll find him on the tennis court, the golf course, or out on a ride, or better yet, spending time with his grandkids.

We're grateful to have Jim in our corner. 🙏

SYCF supports our community in three ways:
🤝 Community Grants - Local nonprofits can apply year-round for funding that goes toward real needs, right here at home.
🎓 Education Scholarships - We offer multiple scholarship options for local students. Applications open October 1st
🫔 Tamale Day 2026 - Our flagship community fundraiser is back on December 4, 2026. Over 15 years of neighbors coming together to give back.

And here's what makes SYCF different: when you donate to us, your gift goes directly to your neighbors - not somewhere else. Every board member lives and works right here in Yuba and Sutter counties. We're a public 501(c)(3) non-profit, fully volunteer-led, and every dollar we raise is distributed solely within our region.

The scholarship window is open🎓

SYCF is now accepting applications for the 2026/2027 school year - from October 1, 2026 to April 2, 2027

We offer multiple scholarships with different qualifiers, so there may be more than one you can apply for. Download the application, go through the checklist carefully, and submit everything on the list.

Behind everything SYCF does - the scholarships, the grants, the events- there are people who gave their time for free.

Not just our Board of Directors. Every single person who has shown up, helped out, set up, broken down, and made things happen for this community.

That's who SYCF is. A group of Yuba-Sutter neighbors who believe that when people come together and give what they can, something real gets built.

Because of our all-volunteer model, every dollar donated goes straight to local students and nonprofits, no exceptions. That only works because of you.

Scholarships are opening soon - and this one's for Yuba-Sutter students. 🎓

Starting October 1st, SYCF's scholarship window is open. If you're a local student with plans for college, trade school, or a career training program, there's likely something here for you.

We offer several scholarships, each with different qualifiers and award amounts. A few highlights:
📚 2.0 GPA minimum for most scholarships, this isn't just for straight-A students
🔧 Trade school and vocational programs qualify
🎓 Awards ranging from $500 up to $5,000
📍 Must be a Sutter or Yuba County student

Applications are accepted October 1, 2026 – April 2, 2027.

If you know a senior, a returning student, or a young person figuring out their next step, share this with them. This could be the opportunity they've been waiting for.
