Waypoint is growing. 💙

We’re expanding into community health and developing the Waypoint Community Health Program a community-based effort focused on helping individuals and families connect with practical health information, wellness support, and the resources they need.

Our goal is simple: meet people where they are and help make the next step easier.

The program will focus on areas such as:

Health education and wellness support
Resource navigation
Primary care and insurance connections
Food, housing, and transportation referrals
Recovery and harm reduction support
Community outreach and follow-up
Support for adults and older adults
Community wellness activities as the program continues to grow

We’re also looking to connect with volunteers and community partners who want to be part of this work.

If you have experience or interest in community health, healthcare, human services, outreach, wellness, recovery support, or resource navigation, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t have to know everything we’re looking for dependable, compassionate people who believe in helping others navigate their next step.

We’re currently building partnerships and developing opportunities to bring services directly to community sites, neighborhood programs, outreach events, and partner organizations throughout the Ypsilanti area.

Huge thank you to National Heritage Academies and Xavier for supporting today’s Backpack Giveaway! We truly appreciate the backpacks, school supplies, and the extra effort Xavier made to help us restock when supplies started going fast. Because of everyone who showed up and helped, a lot of kids went home ready for the school year. 💙🎒📚

We officially ran out of backpacks and school supplies within the FIRST HOUR of today’s giveaway!

Thank you to every family who came out and everyone who helped make this possible. The turnout was incredible and showed just how important events like this are for our community.

We’re grateful we could help so many students start the school year with the supplies they need. 💙

Waypoint Outreach Initiative is partnering with Growing Hope to provide free backpacks and school supplies to local students as they prepare for the new school year!

📅 Sunday, August 9, 2026

📍 Ypsilanti Farmers Marketplace

Students may receive:
🎒 Backpacks
📓 Notebooks
✏️ Pens and pencils
📚 School supplies
🤝 Community resources

Important giveaway information:
Students must be present to receive a backpack. If a student cannot attend, a parent or guardian must provide school documentation showing the student’s name.

One backpack per student, while supplies last. No advance registration is required.

We’re finishing up interviews soon and looking to round out the Waypoint Forward women’s reentry team.

This is a volunteer opportunity supporting the development of services for women returning to Washtenaw County from Huron Valley Women’s Correctional Facility.

Volunteer Women’s Reentry Support Representatives may assist with peer support, resource navigation, community outreach, partnership development, and connecting women with housing, employment, healthcare, recovery, transportation, identification, legal resources, and other practical support.

We are looking for compassionate, dependable people who believe in second chances and want to help build a meaningful women’s reentry program in Washtenaw County. Lived experience is valued, but it is not required.

Thank you to the gentlemen from the Home of New Vision ROOT team for showing up and supporting Waypoint Outreach Initiative’s Community Resource Navigation Workshop tonight.

I have a great deal of respect for the work their team does in the community, and I appreciate them taking the time to attend, share information, and connect with us. We look forward to more opportunities to work alongside one another at future community events.

As we continue moving forward, Waypoint is now offering free weekend resource-navigation appointments at Ypsilanti District Library locations

We can help community members identify and navigate resources related to housing, IDs and vital documents, employment, transportation, food, veteran services, recovery support, and personal resource planning.

Help develop and lead Waypoint Forward, our women’s reentry support project serving women returning to Washtenaw County after incarceration.

Both positions are unpaid volunteer opportunities, but meaningful development and progression within Waypoint are possible. Reliable volunteers may have opportunities to lead groups and workshops, coordinate outreach, build community partnerships, support future volunteers, and take on increased leadership responsibilities as Waypoint continues to grow.

We are looking for compassionate, dependable people who believe in meeting others where they are and treating every person with dignity.
