As the colder months approach, Waypoint Outreach Initiative is preparing for our winter operations and expanding our efforts to support individuals and families throughout Washtenaw County.

We're currently seeking Volunteer Peer Support & Community Outreach Representatives who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in their communities.

Our work focuses on compassion, harm reduction, recovery support, resource navigation, and connecting people with the services they need.

We're looking for dependable, compassionate individuals who believe that showing up for others can make a lasting impact. Whether you have experience in peer support, community outreach, or simply a heart for service, we encourage you to apply!

Something new is coming from Waypoint.

On Saturday, November 21, we’re hosting our first Starting Over: Community Resource & Reentry Workshop at Ypsilanti District Library Superior.

This free, hands-on workshop will cover:
• Community resource navigation
• Reentry planning
• Our Stability Budget Challenge
• 30/60/90-day action planning
• Local resources and Q&A

Whether you’re returning home, rebuilding after a setback, helping someone you care about, or simply looking for resources you’re welcome.

A few months ago, a lot of what we were building at Waypoint Outreach was still on paper.

Today, both our men’s and women’s reentry programs are fully open, and we are now accepting referrals for individuals preparing to return to the community or navigating life after release.

At the same time, we’re developing upcoming reentry and community workshops focused on practical support, resource navigation, life skills, and helping people better understand the systems and resources available to them.

There is still a lot of work ahead, but it’s exciting to see these programs move from ideas and conversations into real services for our community.

If you work with someone who could benefit from reentry support, we’re accepting referrals now.

Waypoint Outreach is looking for additional volunteers to support peer encouragement, resource navigation, outreach, workshops, and community follow-up.

We especially welcome people with lived experience in recovery, reentry, housing instability, behavioral health, veterans’ services, or navigating community resources but lived experience is not required.

We’re also open to volunteers who can help with Canva/graphic design, flyers, website updates, social media, resource research, and community outreach.

Today was a proud moment for Waypoint. ❤️

I’m excited to officially introduce Veronica, Marley, and Taji as part of the Waypoint team.

Today they completed our Field Readiness Workshop, working through real-life scenarios, resource navigation, peer support, boundaries, crisis situations, and what it truly means to meet people where they are.

What impressed me most wasn’t perfection it was their willingness to learn, challenge themselves, ask questions, and prepare to serve people the right way.

I’m already incredibly proud of these three women, and I’m excited to see them grow, find their own voices, and show our community what they can accomplish.

Waypoint is growing. The team is growing. And we’re just getting started. 🧭❤️

This trunk tells the story. ❤️

Today, Joe and I were back out in Ypsilanti doing what Waypoint was created to do showing up, meeting people where they are, and helping however we can.

We distributed outreach bags throughout the community, went inside the Ypsilanti District Library to connect people with supplies, and even used some of our Narcan to help refill their community Narcan box.

There weren’t many action pictures today, but the work happened. Every bag in this trunk represents preparation, compassion, and another opportunity to connect someone with support.

Waypoint is here. We’re growing. And most importantly, we’re showing up.

WAYPOINT IS RESTOCKED WITH NARCAN ❤️

Waypoint Outreach Initiative is officially restocked with Narcan and will be ready to carry it with us during upcoming community outreach.

This one is personal for me.

Long before Waypoint existed, during my time as a firefighter, I became very aware of just how important Narcan can be. I had the opportunity to use it in real time while helping someone experiencing an opioid overdose.

In moments like that, there isn't time for judgment, stigma or assumptions. There is a person in front of you who needs help and Narcan can give that person another chance.

That experience stayed with me.

Years later, it is part of the reason harm reduction has a place in the work we do through Waypoint. We believe in meeting people where they are, keeping people alive and making sure help is available when somebody needs it.

A huge thank you to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Michigan's Naloxone Direct Portal for making lifesaving naloxone available to community organizations like ours.

We'll be carrying Narcan during outreach and continuing to get it into the community where it belongs.

Because you can't help someone tomorrow if they don't make it through today.

Waypoint is expanding our Reentry support.

We’re developing a new Practical Reentry Workshop Series designed around the real-life challenges people face when returning to the community.

Workshops will focus on things like:
• The first 72 hours after release
• Second-chance employment
• Digital skills
• Budgeting and resource planning
• Conflict management
• Building a realistic 90-day plan
• Navigating everyday reentry barriers

Our goal is simple: practical tools, real support, and a stronger next step.

We’re currently building community referral partnerships throughout Washtenaw County and look forward to sharing more soon.
