Just saw a comment “Oh how I miss Yarnell Days!” - has no one been paying attention to the changes in town?
2 lanes through town
Significantly more traffic
High rate of speed
Inability to close off minor side streets due
to COMPLAINTS from within the community
No “community minded” people that will allow people to congregate or (heaven forbid even walk across) their property
Moving it to Peeples Valley makes it no longer “Yarnell Days”
There are only 2 businesses that are actually OPEN regularly
No space for vendors, no space for parking and no place for visitors to walk (see above with regards to 2 lanes of increased speeding traffic).

Photo borrowed from Denise Whitley’s photos. With heartfelt condolences to her family and friends, we celebrate Denise’s life, love, energy, music and friendship. Her passing will have a profound impact on every person and community she has touched - Yarnell, Peeples Valley, Wilhoit and all our surrounding neighbors. You are loved, you are missed and you will never be forgotten. Rest now, Miss Denise, without pain and sing with the angels (we’ll hear you down here). Much love to Denise’s family.

This is the explanation as to “Why weren’t there Christmas lights and banners put up through town this past holiday season?”

There were no Christmas lights put up for several reasons.
Changes in Yavapai County requirements. Changes with our former APS volunteer.
One of the biggest reasons was to see if BUSINESSES in Yarnell & Peeples Valley cared enough about their towns to decorate and SHOW INTEREST in decorating for the holidays.

3 businesses decorated - three.

The Chamber of Commerce is to help businesses and foster support within the communities they are in but when those businesses don’t care - it sends a strong message.

We cannot and will not “just put them up anyway” without proper permitting and permissions (because of all the new folks involved in governmental agencies and APS) - the age of hand shake deals (unfortunately) are gone and any fines and violations would be at our peril.

Our small town life & thinking is being forced to change and we are coming up with the best way to ensure continual perpetual agreements that are written and not just on a hand shake.

We appreciate the community’s appreciation of those small festive features and we will take those into account but we need businesses to give a little effort for the town as well.

To all - the YPV CoC has been in a phase of strategizing. As local residents know (long time and some newbies) - Yarnell has faced a few changes that has impacted numerous types of events from happening as “they always have”.

The YFD had to re-route their memorial run, the Buzzards Bash has been moved to Peeples Valley, and (while safer) we are down to one lane each way (which reduces our street usage for events). We have seen rejections for permits to temporarily close streets for use during events, we have new “outside” owners who are not keen on “lending” their properties for event use and so much more (complaints that prevent future permits from being issued, etc).

We posted a response on the Yarnell Hill FB page regarding the lack of Christmas lights and banners this past holiday season.
The lull we are facing is temporary as we are looking for long term written agreements to secure commitments, possibly secure area(s) for events that don’t have to be “chased down” year after year.

Our community HAS changed and is still changing - I mean you actually have to wait and look both ways numerous times at a stop sign now which was not the case a mere 5 years ago.

The YPV CoC is thinking ouside the box in order to find ways to bring events to town that will be safe for all (members of the community, visitors, vendors and attendees), fun for all and have enough space for expected visitors. Space is a limited commodity here in Yarnell and sadly since the inception of the Chamber, the Chamber owns no land so we are limited on the diminishing cooperation of others.

Hope this helps everyone understand things a bit better. There is much to think about, to consider and relationships to cultivate and nurture.
