📢 Important PSA – Take action TODAY to keep your animals safe from life-threatening weather: Historic Arctic conditions with heavy ice, snow, and dangerous wind chills will hit the area tonight and tomorrow, and temperatures will remain brutally low into next week. ❄️

The weather will be too harsh for cats and dogs, so bring them inside with you — even a garage or enclosed porch set up to keep them warm is much kinder than leaving them outdoors to suffer and, in many cases, die. Livestock will also need a properly protected barn or shelter.

🌬 PSA- WINTER WEATHER ALERT AND ANIMAL CARE ❄️
Today’s the day to get everything ready for the serious winter weather coming this weekend—don’t wait!

Heavy ice and snow are expected across the US and in our area this weekend, bringing potentially life-threatening conditions.

During cold, wintry weather, find a way to bring your dogs and cats inside, even if it’s just into a garage, shed, or covered porch. If bringing them in isn’t possible, make sure to prepare ahead of time with essential protection. This also means providing proper shelter and care for livestock and other farm animals in your care plus feral community cats in your area.

Not sure how to get ready?
Browse through the post photos for inspiration on preparing for winter weather and ensuring the animals that depend on you stay safe.

If they are instead outside...
- Elevate dog/cat houses using pallets, which are often free.
- Position entrance doors away from prevailing winds.
- Install a flap over dog/cat house entrances.
- Insulate with straw, not hay.
- Use tarps as barriers; repair/replace in strong wind or snow.
- Provide extra food and ensure drinking water remains unfrozen.

😻 Here’s some good news to warm up this chilly day—congratulations to the lucky Caswell Cats rescued by Cat Tales Rescue NC!! 🙌

On this cold, snowy day we took another trip to the Animal Protection Society of Caswell County and came back with 6 more kitties for the cafe! That’s 16 cats in 8 days!! We welcome Rollie, Kimchi, Ceviche, Idea, Mistral and Zibby! Look for them on our website in a couple of weeks. 🥰

🏠 - Our volunteer page promotes indoor living spaces and either secure fenced yard/leashed walks/caticos for exercise and bathroom breaks as well as the importance of veterinary care, including year-round heartworm and parasite prevention and up-to-date vaccinations. A pre-adoption meet-and-greet with all family members, pets included, is crucial, along with gradual leashed introductions and a decompression routine at home.
