The purpose of the Union Gap Police Employee Foundation (“UGPEF”) is to operate as a non-profit corporation and shall operate exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning
of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The first mission of this foundation is to provide members of the Union Gap community support, by being able to fill a temporary need. These temporary needs are, but not limited to, food, housing, clothing, fuel or other transportation needs. At times, we may also use funds to support and promote families and their youth in forms of mentorship, school programs and character development. We also recognize that we can support community partnerships between departmental members and the community and that this is a positive and an effective means to help facilitate trust between both groups. We recognize that this foundation can provide benefits to the men and women that work within the Union Gap Police Department. In turn, those benefits have a direct impact to the community in which we all serve. Examples of support this foundation may provide is funding in law enforcement equipment and technology, because we know these investments are crucial in keeping our front-line officers and our community members safe from harm. A secondary benefit is supporting employee development. Employee development includes, but not limited to, employee wellness and continued training or education that supports their role in the community. Employee Wellness is defined as supporting employees to promote an understanding that they are seen, heard and appreciated and their continued physical and mental health is important to keeping our community safe. To maximize our impact on current efforts, we may seek to collaborate with other non-profit organizations which also fall under the 501(c)(3) section of the Internal Revenue Code and are operated exclusively for charitable purposes. The UGPEF members will not profit from this foundation.
