Have you heard of the "Fish Doorbell?" Well, we want a "Whale Doorbell" on the Oregon coast! Inspired by the online community of fish fans supporting Dutch fish on their journey, we propose a coastline monitoring system that allows the identification of both healthy whales (to slow down boats, reducing accidental collisions) and distressed whales (to alert entanglement teams). Strandings are just the tip of the iceberg, and we can do much more by saving whales at sea than on shore. https://visdeurbel.nl/over/

We had a very good meeting with the Marine Mammal Stranding Network and West Coast Entanglement leadership yesterday! Here is the overall slide show, also available to watch here: https://youtu.be/cWpfz5dZvNc?si=58gSiwB5mCNdaGhx We also had an excellent discussion afterward that I'll put in a separate post as a Q&A transcript.

📢 PNW Whale Rescue Network Volunteers: We Need Your Info! 🐋💙

Hi everyone! As we prepare for our Dec 18th meeting with NOAA, OSU, OCA and CRC, we are working hard to finalize an accurate, complete database of volunteers across the Oregon and Washington coastlines.

To do that, we need every volunteer to fill out ONE of the forms below:

🟦 General Volunteers (most people):
If you want to help in any capacity - physical labor, observing, gear transport, communications, beach alerts, safety support - please fill out this form:

🟩 Specialty Volunteers (experts + professionals):
If you have skills in marine biology, veterinary care, medical, heavy equipment, drone operation, logistics, legal, admin, communications, engineering, etc., please fill out this form:

🔥 IMPORTANT:
Even if you have emailed us, messaged us, commented on a post, or spoken with us directly, PLEASE still fill out one of the forms. This is the only way to ensure your information is organized correctly and shared with the right team leads.

💬 Help Us Grow the Network
Please share these forms with neighbors, friends, local businesses, beach regulars, or anyone with tools, resources, skills, or a desire to help.
Shovels, buckets, drones, trailers, radios, muscle, experience - it all matters.

Filling out these forms also ensures you will be notified of future meetings and updates.

We are organizing verified Specialty Leads and Regional Leads to help coordinate whale rescue volunteers along the Oregon Coast. If you are willing to serve as a lead or backup in your area of expertise, please complete this form. Please fill this out even if you’ve already messaged us on Facebook...
