Cake Week 3.0!

This week concludes the our final session for the 2025/2026 school year!

I present to you, the finale! Everyone's favorite part of a meal....DESSERT!!! Better yet...CAKE!!!!!

We had the opportunity to let our creative minds wander as we prepared a chocolate cake with fresh strawberries and whipped vanilla frosting. Afterwards, we all shared our wishes over a slice of cake. These chefs have all learned that we do not eat our creations until we've worked together to clean up our space and everyone is served. And yesterday was no different.

🍪 Cookie Week! 🍪

Yesterday, our amazing chefs had the opportunity to step into the GFS Test Kitchens for our final Cookie Day for the 2025/2026 school year!

Of course our day wasn't complete with a little on-the-fly problem solving & some Cookie sampling.

Thank you to our wonderful GFS host, Michelle as well as the parents that hung around to lend a hand!

This morning some of our goodies were dropped off for our amazing Vanguard staff to add a little sweetness to their week.

This week was knife skills week!

Chefs had the opportunity to work in groups and prepare ingredients for fruit salsa with cinnamon pie crisps. We diced strawberries and apples, we zested limes but we also supported eachother and helped our team stay safe and educated while handling knives in the kitchen.

These chefs did great!

This week was Waffle Week! We made low carb l, high protein Chicken Chaffles.

1cup rotisserie chicken, shredded
1 egg
1 tbsp hot sauce
1 cup shredded cheese

Chef's had the opportunity to see if they could stand the heat. And thankfully they all did great!

We got to work on our knife skills as we diced strawberries, kiwi & apples for our fresh fruit deliciousness.

We had some mishaps along the way but nothing a little music & laughter couldn't fix.

Wooohoooo! Week 3 Cookie Week for these young chef's as we get to venture to GFS to bake cookies! I hope you all got to enjoy the tasty creations your chef brought home!

Miss Michelle was once again amazing! Thank you to Michelle & GFS for hosting us and allowing us to see a real commercial kitchen space and even see walk in freezers and coolers!

My sincerest apologies for not sharing updates from last week!

I hope you all enjoyed last week's treat!
Week 1- Protein Bites-- oats, peanut butter, honey & mini m&m's****
Last week we got to get our hands into different textures and really felt how each component felt and then how they came together to make something wonderful. Everyone commented on not liking the smell of honey by itself but were delighted when they couldn't taste it when everything was mixed together.
We talked about how having a quick snack in the fridge that has protein & fiber in it can help our brains and bodies feel good.

Week 2 - Chicken & Waffles with locally sourced fresh maple syrup and maple cinnamon butter.

Air-fried crispy Chicken bites

Unsalted maple cinnamon butter

In culinary club, everyone is encouraged and expected to try things they may not be used to. We are pushing food boundaries gently here, folks! Your young chef's have mentioned likes and dislikes and share stories about their lives. We got to trust ourselves and help eachother use waffle makers. We sat together and all tasted our items together and talked about what we liked and what we didnt like.
We all had an ingredient that we put into the recipe. We talked about how taking out just 1 ingredient could completely change our recipe. This could be an interesting discovery or it could be a failed recipe.
