Another Great horned owl that we released on Wednesday! This one was in neighboring Piñon Hills! We picked this one up back in April I think, he finally went home!

Wednesday night we had a busy night with 3 owl releases. Here’s the first one we did right at home in Wrightwood. This guy was brought in as a fledgling with some tail feathers missing and damaged. With the right care and diet from a licensed wildlife rehabber, feather growth can be accelerated, and feathers can be repaired using a technique called “imping”. Due to great care from Raptor experts we’re able to release this one.

Yesterday we picked up a young raccoon. A mamma had babies in a boat down in hesperia the homeowner didn’t realize it was a whole family, they thought it was just a baby that needed rescuing. Animal control came out to trap the baby, left a trap overnight, but instead of trapping the baby, mom got caught. In the process of trying to escape the trap to get back to her babies, she injured herself to the point that she ended up bleeding out and dying. After working with the homeowner we were able to get all three babies safely between yesterday and today. They were taken down to Pond Digger Ranch today to be raised to adulthood.

A couple of days ago we had another great day of releasing birds that we’ve taken in to be rehabilitated. One was a red tailed hawk we picked up at San Bernardino city shelter a little over a month ago. It was ready to be released back in San Bernardino. Then another put back on the finder’s property in Phelan. Here’s a video of the one in San Bernardino:

Memorial Day was another good day to release a fledgling great horned owl. We took this one in several weeks ago, and it was cared for at Bear paw ranch in Oak Glen. It was released back where it was taken in in oak hills. #
