These two young ladies have been part of the Hummingbird Run: Safe Driving Initiative since they could walk! The Hummingbird Run is organized by members of the extended Giordano family. This year we celebrate the tenth and final year of bringing the community together to commit to responsible driving. Our event honors the memory of Elizabeth Giordano, who we lost to a distracted-driving crash in 2009. She was our daughter, sister, cousin, niece, aunt, friend. A truly exceptional young woman who we think about every day, with love and delight. And also sadness. It has been our mission to raise awareness of distracted driving to help keep you safe. When you get behind the wheel, take a moment to commit your full attention to the road. Help to save lives. Help keep families together. If you’d like to join the Run for a 5K walk, 5K run, or 10K run, be at the Crackerbarrel Fairgrounds in Wrentham at about 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026, to join the community to advocate for safe roads for all. To Elizabeth, with love. ❤️

On Sunday, a portion of people will celebrate Easter, making it a busy travel day. If you’re going to be on the road, please be vigilant as there may be higher road risk. Analysis by our friends at Cambridge Mobile Telematics shows distraction rises over 8% in the morning, while speeding increases more than 20% in the afternoon. In addition, distracted driving at speeds over 50 mph may also up more than 15% throughout much of the day. Please be alert and be careful!

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. It seeks to draw attention to an epidemic that kills thousands of people per year. Approximately 29% of all roadway crashes involve some form of distraction. In addition to the time that you take your eyes off the road, it takes up to 27 seconds for a driver to fully regain mental focus on driving after engaging in a distraction. This is far too long to not be fully engaged. Please drive as if your life, and the lives of others, depends on it!
