Great news for our local trails 🌲🚲

I’m happy to share that funding has moved forward for a critical equipment purchase to support trail management and maintenance in the Town of Wrentham, and our region.

This project will fund the purchase of a Rokon All-Terrain Vehicle, a highly specialized piece of equipment that is the only vehicle capable of fitting on single-track trails. Because of access limitations, many of these trails haven’t been properly maintained in over six years and have become overgrown with trees, shrubs, and ground cover.

With this new equipment, staff will finally be able to access and maintain these trails—restoring them for safe public use and long-term stewardship.

📍 Communities impacted: Wrentham, Franklin, and Foxborough
🌿 Managed through: Department of Conservation and Recreation
🛠️ Purpose: Trail maintenance and management equipment

This is about protecting our outdoor spaces, improving access, and making sure our trails remain a resource for everyone to enjoy. I’m proud to support investments like this that deliver real, practical benefits to our communities.

Great news Franklin & Bellingham Rail Trail Committee

We are excited to share the news that the Franklin Town Council passed Resolution 24-74 at the November 20th meeting in order to purchase land to extend the SNETT towards downtown Franklin. The town allocated $2,570,000 to purchase a total of 19.51 acres between Grove Street and Union Street. Full details can be found on the town's website.

FYI

Beginning Monday, October 21, 2024, portions of the Blackstone River Bikeway in Lincoln will be closed to the public for tree work in and around the Blackstone River.

The area impacted will be the stretch of bike path between the Ashton Dam and the Front Street Parking Area, roughly Mile Markers 8 to 12. The work is expected to take two to three weeks to complete. During this time, no detours will be available at the closure points.

Workers will remove trees blocking the Blackstone River canal in Lincoln. Some of the hazardous trees set to be removed are related to the tornado earlier this year, and some are part of a grant awarded by DEM’s Recreational Trails Program to the Blackstone River Watershed Council.

North Eastern Tree Services Inc. will be performing the work. During the project, large equipment including cranes, trucks, and chippers will be on the path. There will also be tree service employees in and around the canal.

This project has been approved by DEM, the National Parks Service, and the RI Historical Society as part of a joint effort with the Town of Lincoln.

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve this area and will provide an update when the work is complete.

The Franklin & Bellingham Rail Trail Committee (FBRTC) is thrilled to announce the successful completion of the 5K race hosted by the Tri-Valley Front Runners (TVFR), which raised over $8,500 to support the development and maintenance of the Southern New England Trunkline Trail (SNETT). We extend our heartfelt gratitude to TVFR and especially to Mark Capparella, the dedicated race director, and his team for their unwavering support and exceptional organization of this event. At the most recent FBRTC meeting, Mark and the TVFR team presented President Cliff Winters with a donation of $5,373.56, which accounted for the net proceeds of the 2024 race.

Come visit us at Norfolk Day!

It's World Bicycle Day, and we'd like to thank Landry's Bicycles of Worcester and Blackstone Bicycles of Cumberland for their support of our bikeway map. We've been working on updating it to include the new segment under construction in Blackstone, which will meet up with the segment in Rhode Island that brings you to Cold Spring Park in Woonsocket. We've also noted the two new bicycle repair stations in Blackstone and Uxbridge.

If you're out there today celebrating World Bicycle Day, share a picture in the comments. We'd love to hear from you!

Wrentham friends! Please come out and support us next Monday night!

Norfolk and Walpole have already approved funding. We often get asked by folks what can they do to help/or get involved. Showing up to events like town meeting is the BEST way to be involved :)

Hope to see many of you there!

Wrentham Community Preservation Committee Projects for consideration at June Town Meeting:

Metacomet - State approached Wrentham, Walpole and Norfolk to help engineer, then build the Metacomet Greenway path from Walpole to Wrentham Center. Wrentham pays 20% of our share of the engineering costs, the State pays 80% of engineering, then State pays 100% of the build cost. $200K cost for Wrentham, gains access to $19M trail. Final routing of trail to be determined in engineering phase by Greenway Team, Town of Wrentham and State; roughly follows rail bed out of Norfolk, until Cushing Drive, then crosses Rt. 1A and into State School property. Runs through/near Rice Complex then to Wrentham Center.

Delaney Playground - Preschool playground envisioned to be ADA accessible, and have age-appropriate play items. Current playground is 20+ years old and can't be fixed. Also current is not ADA accessible.

ADA Door Openers - Bennett Gardens has four newly renovated ADA compliant and accessible apartments, and is in need of automatic door openers on those apartments and the community room.

You can find a more detailed summary at the town website for the Spring 2024 Projects: https://www.wrentham.gov/government/boards_committees/community_preservation_committee/current_projects

We love seeing the progress on the installation of two bicycle repair stations on the Blackstone River Greenway between Blackstone and Uxbridge. MassDCR is preparing the concrete pads at the trailheads in Blackstone and Uxbridge.

Completing the multi-use trail between Worcester and Providence is one of our priorities. Learn more at PreservetheCorridor.org.
