Summer with The En Gedi Project is here!

We have a full summer of outdoor adventures planned in the Big Horns and beyond—backpacking, canoe camping, fishing, hiking, river floating, cabin trips, bikepacking, and more - for the kids or the whole family!

A few of the first opportunities:

May 23–26 (Memorial Day Weekend) — Easier Backpacking, Paint Rock Canyon
A great first backpacking trip: 4 days/3 nights, modest mileage, beautiful camps, fishing, antler-shed hunting, and a chance to learn the routines and gear without big climbs or long distances.

May 29–31 — Canoe & Fishing Overnight, Tie Hack Reservoir
A low-key, family-friendly two-night trip with a short paddle to secluded lakeside campsites. Fishing, paddling, exploring, and cowboy camping under the stars.

June 13 — Big Horn River Float, Thermopolis
Float from Wedding of the Waters to Hot Springs State Park, then hang out and grill lunch together in the park.

June 15–19 — Easier Backpacking, Cloud Peak Wilderness
Another beginner-friendly backpacking option with 3–5 miles per day, beautiful remote country, and a day to explore without packs.

Full and partial scholarships are available for En Gedi Project activities. Most trips start and end in Worland, with options to meet at the activity location when possible.

Merry Christmas from The En Gedi Project!

En Gedi is more than a destination off the coast of the Dead Sea in Israel—it’s a name for a kind of place many of us know: wilderness seasons, hidden caves, stretched resources, unanswered questions, and the feeling of being pursued by worries we can’t outrun. David knew that place firsthand. And in the caves and springs of En Gedi, he discovered that the deepest peace is not found when circumstances finally improve, but when God becomes our refuge. From that desert place he prayed, “My heart is steadfast, O God” (Psalm 57:7).

At Christmas we celebrate the deeper refuge: Christ has come! The angels announced “peace on earth” (Luke 2:14), not as a guarantee that the world’s affairs will be calmed or that your own circumstances will improve, but as the promise that real peace is now offered—peace between each of us and God—because God Himself has drawn near to save.

Wherever this Christmas season finds you—celebrating, weary, grieving, hopeful, or somewhere in between—may the Lord meet you with His presence. May you find shelter in His care, and renew your confidence that you are not alone in the wilderness. The Savior has come, and His peace is real!

Thank you for your support, encouragement, and for participating in the life of The En Gedi Project this year. We’re grateful to walk alongside you.

Merry Christmas!

Hi Friends,

Quick updates from the En Gedi Project:

• Summer 2026 calendar is up! Trip windows for backpacking, bikepacking, canoeing, and family adventures in Wyoming are posted! Check out the exciting two-week USA 250th Birthday Family Camping Tour! Spots are limited on most trips—please take a look and pencil in your dates! Shorter overnights and day activities or events during the school year will be posted as they are calendared: https://www.engediproject.org/

• Day of Atonement Dinner (Yom Kippur) - Saturday, Oct 4. We’ll gather for a hearty meal and an engaging Bible lesson on the Day of Atonement and the ways in which it points towards the Good News of Jesus. Details and RSVP here:

• Thank you for a great 2025 summer! Dozens of kids and families got outside—first-time backpackers, new peak summits, cycling miles, and campfire conversations. Your encouragement, donations, and participation made these life-changing experiences possible!

• Trailer Fundraiser—Help Us Finish the Build. Thanks to your generous support, we’ve green-lit a custom off-road trailer from a Wyoming builder—the frame is already in fabrication! To make it fully adventure-ready, we’re raising the final funds for electrical, water, and storage/shelving systems. This trailer lets us carry group gear and keep trips low-cost so more kids and families can get outside. If the En Gedi Project has been meaningful to your family, would you make a gift and share the link with friends?

Grateful for your partnership and excited for the year ahead! See you on the trail!

Just got back from a great trip into the Cloud Peak Wilderness with a small but lively group, where we summited Big Horn Peak—a memorable adventure, especially for our first-time backpackers!

We’ve got one last trip before school starts: Monday–Wednesday, August 11–13. It’s an easy, two-mile hike to camp by a small alpine lake—perfect for a first backpacking experience or a relaxing getaway for seasoned hikers.

Check out the website for details and let us know if you’d like to join us!

Our trip to the Bighorns last week was a huge success—most of the group even made it to the summit of Blacktooth Mountain! We’ve got two more adventures left this summer, including a beginner-friendly trip starting tomorrow (Monday). There are still spots available, and since we don’t leave until noon, there’s plenty of time to get your camper packed and ready. Hope to see you on the trail!
