Things are starting to come together at the Lodge.

Up to now it’s mostly been planning and preparation for the restoration work.

We’ve already had some help with materials and support from different sides, which we’re grateful for.

Still early days, but it’s moving in the right direction.

We’ll share updates as we go, especially with the 150-year anniversary coming up later this year.

Thanks to everybody who is helping to make this happen

Masonic Membership Proof
How masons prove that they are or are not a member can be a puzzling question to non-masons.
While many people are aware we have various signs and symbols that can be used, these can often be found by a deep enough search.
And would you believe in parts of the world there are whole fake lodges and who claim to be masons but are literally making it up as they go along?
So how do we definitively tell who’s who if we’ve never met them before?
While we could put in a call to their ‘mother lodge’, or to Grand Lodge, that’s not likely feasible after office hours and it might be judged a tad rude.
So we use these - a beautiful membership certificate.
Pictured here is a vintage example - which differs from current ones.
These are not kept by masons in frames on their walls - even though they look fantastic.
They are carried in our cases as a form of masonic passport - to be presented to any lodge we are visiting that do not know us upon request, and no offence is taken.
As with other Masonic traditions, their imagery is rich in history and meaning, and they have slight changes reflecting the era they are issued in.
They are also printed on very specific material, meaning they cannot be printed off at home - just the feel would tell you that one was a forgery.
They are the pride and joy of every genuine member, and a constant reminder of the oaths of fidelity each of us has taken.

Some work is done in words.
Other work is done in silence.

Temples are built by men who return, again and again, to square their actions, level their passions, and remember that the true Temple is raised within.

Generations before us laid stones they would never see completed.
Generations after us will walk the ground we prepare.

Today, we labour quietly.
With gratitude for what has been entrusted,
and humility for what still lies ahead.

FOUNDERS DAY 150 Years Ago Today

On this day 20th of October in 1875, a small group of Freemasons met at the home of Dr. Samuel Treadwell here in Worcester, South Africa.
That evening, twelve Brethren agreed to form a new Lodge under the English Constitution, an idea that would grow into Worcester Lodge No. 1603.

Soon after that first meeting, the founders hired the premises now known as 100 High Street as their meeting place.
That building once stood on the ground that is today part of Church Square and the Garden of Remembrance.
Though the original walls are long gone, the spirit of that beginning still lives on in Worcester.

From those early steps grew one of the town’s oldest institutions, quietly serving the community for 150 years.
Generations of local tradesmen, professionals, and community leaders have passed through its doors, united by friendship and service.

Today we remember that first gathering, and we look ahead to 2026, when we will celebrate 150 years since the Lodge’s consecration, marking a century and a half of continuous presence in Worcester.

The Broken Column sadly not used as much these days to enable us to support widows wherever they travel. For those who have not heard of it a brief description.
The Masonic Widow’s Pin was created with the hope that it would be worn by the widow of a Master Mason on all appropriate occasions, especially when traveling, so that she may be recognized, greeted and assisted when necessary, by Masonic friends throughout the world. It is an emblem of honour and should be worn separately not in connection with other jewellery. May she who wears this emblem find that she is not alone.
When moments may cause you doubt, look at this emblem and be assured that we, Masons, are there and that we care. Watson
