ASSISTments Assign Online. Enhance math curricula with data for teachers & immediate feedback for students

ASSISTments is a free, web-based platform and non-profit organization, developed at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, that makes homework and classwork more effective. The platform assists students with their homework and classroom through immediate feedback, while helping teachers assess where to focus class time. The flexibility of the program allows teachers to use common curricula and textbooks

such as EngageNY, Illustrative Mathematics, Open Up Resources and Utah Math - and to assign through Google Classroom and Canvas LMS.

We're excited to collaborate with Anthropic to launch the ASSISTments Connector for Claude, a free AI-powered integration that helps math teachers create custom, standards-aligned practice faster than ever.

Teachers remain in the driver's seat by reviewing and editing every problem before assigning it to students, while Claude helps with the time-consuming work of creating high-quality practice.

One assigned, teachers get access to real-time student learning data.

In 2019, ASSISTments received a federal Education Innovation and Research (EIR) grant from the U.S. Department of Education to scale evidence-based math support in rural schools. In partnership with WestEd and Lesley University, we designed and studied a virtual professional learning model reaching teachers across 24 states. The strongest gains were seen among students who began the year below grade level—and teachers reported meaningful shifts in how they used data to inform instruction.

Now that the project is complete and reports are publicly available, we’re sharing what we learned about scaling impact in rural communities.
