🔥 ELEVATED FIRE RISK SATURDAY! 🔥

Gusty winds, warm temperatures, and dry conditions will combine to create an elevated fire risk across portions of Iowa on Saturday, particularly in the northwestern part of the state.

Southerly winds of 20–30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, are expected across northwestern Iowa. Combined with relatively low humidity, dry vegetation, and crops that have already dried out, these conditions could allow fires to start and spread rapidly.
Northwestern Iowa also received less rainfall during September than many other parts of the state, adding to the concern.

⚠️ If you're in northwestern Iowa, avoid outdoor burning on Saturday. Farmers and those operating equipment in fields should also use extra caution, as sparks or hot machinery could ignite dry vegetation.

We'll continue monitoring conditions as Saturday approaches and provide updates if the fire weather threat increases.

October is Vision Awareness Month!

Did you know that many vision conditions in young children show no obvious signs or symptoms?

For the past 26 years, Iowa KidSight has provided free vision screenings for children ages 6 months through kindergarten, helping identify potential vision concerns early, when treatment can be most effective.

Throughout October and all year long, our incredible Lions Club volunteers are in schools, daycare centers, and communities across Iowa making these screenings possible.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every Lions volunteer who helps us fulfill our mission of protecting children's vision and supporting healthy development.

Thank you for 26 years of service, partnership, and dedication to Iowa's children!
