Wigeon, one of our two roosters, was looking extra fantastic and deserved a special post this Tuesday ❤️
Wigeon came here as a “hen”, along with our other roo who tested positive as a female lol. Oops!
Our 10 chickens total came from a massive hoarding case up north and after being treated, medically cleared, etc we were able to finally add some feathered intakes to our farmily.
I’ve learned so much thanks to and about the importance of having a rooster/s in a flock, proper care, diet, housing, etc to make sure we do everything right by adding new species here.
What a misunderstood animal…and one of the first to be tossed away…yet one of the most important animals to have around the ladies.
Wigeon wouldn’t mind some lovely complimentary comments just fyi 😘

Over a year ago, Lainey (previously known as Velcro) was dumped down our road. It took more than a week for someone to be able to catch her and get her off the streets. That’s when I took her in temporarily for initially vetting, etc. Then we found an experienced foster home where she started being evaluated and worked with. Eventually I had someone who seemed like the perfect fit and Lainey was exactly what she was looking for and we adopted her out here locally where things seemed to be going great. 6 months later during Thanksgiving break, I got a call that she needed to be immediately returned out of nowhere and even threatened taking her to the shelter (which goes against our contract). So, I took her back and started all over again. Thankfully our friends helped share Lainey once again and her post then found Lainey’s Godsend….0 who called me right away knowing that Lainey truly was meant to join her family and puppy pals out in Tennessee. Honestly, adopting out so far away was terrifying but something kept telling me “this is it” and it sure is… Vanessa knew exactly what Lainey needed in regards to training, attention, experience and more. Her and Lainey have hit so many milestones and every update I get I smile more and more knowing that through all the hardships, she scored 🤗❤️ And she arrived just in time for Christmas! So here are some updates from then until now. Thank you Vanessa and family for not only giving her the world, but being her world

I never thought I’d be someone who would be holding one of these checks but today that changed! Not only is that beyond exciting, but what’s even more amazing is our local Stater Brothers nominated our non profit for a charitable grant and we were picked and approved for 1k$! Words can’t even express how happy I am as we have had some high medical bills lately along with ongoing feed and care costs. Thank you staff and Staters for this amazing and generous opportunity! Grateful is an understatement

Brad update!
This guy really has turned into such a cuddle bug and craves constant attention! He’s so cute ❤️
Our vet said his healing progress is going well and will have a follow up home visit soon.
He still has quite a ways to go but, it’s going 🙌🏻
Bradley was showing off his goofy side this morning 😛

Thank you again to those who have donated towards his care and checking in on him ❤️‍🩹

Happy Friday! Here’s a picture of Burt loafing it up in the shade this afternoon. We needed a little something to smile about today ❤️🐷

If only every animal felt this relaxed and peaceful.

This is how it should be.

Dennis and Olivia are available for adoption and looking to find their forever home! Here’s their backstories ❤️‍🩹:

Olivia arrived at SIX MONTHS (which is extremely rare, but possible) old and had just given birth. She immediately rejected her baby and even started trying to hurt her.
Olivia also was suffering from a RAGING UTI at the time.

When my vet called as the backyard breeder/owner was looking to surrender both, we thankfully had space at the time to quarantine her and rehabilitate her baby along with provide medical treatment.

As for Dennis, our friends Reject Ranch reached out awhile back seeing if we had space available to take him in as he was “no longer a good fit for a petting zoo” situation. Why? He wasn’t castrated and was displaying common behavioral issues that come with not fixing an animal.

Dennis and Olivia are both around 1 1/2 - 2 years old and have been CL/CAE/Johnes tested and are both negative. Dennis was also castrated shortly after he arrived. Both are current on their vaccine and ready to finally find their forever home together!

Both are super friendly and social, however Dennis does like to play with people and even push his horns on your leg for fun so a home with small kids would not be a good fit.

Last week Brad, our recent intake, underwent surgery to remove the mass from his leg and things are going super well!

Our vet was able to remove about 90% of it (as we didn’t want to get any closer to his joint) along with a good leg cleanup, vaccinations, and overall exam. He stayed at the hospital for a few days before returning home so he could be carefully monitored.

Brad was a very good patient and is healing nicely! The other we completed his 3rd leg wrap and meds and I’m very please with how things are looking. It’s been amazing seeing him move around more comfortably and is so much less irritated.

Thank you everyone who has already donated towards his medical bills. In total his costs were 1,494$ ❤️‍🩹🏥

If you’d like to continue to help us reach our goal in covering his procedure, I’d greatly appreciate it!

This is….freedom….hope….forgiveness….and new beginnings.

Recently our friend, Save a Heeler reached out to see if we can assist with pulling Blu from the Devore Animal Shelter with a committed foster/independent rescuer on board to take him in.

He was deemed “rescue only” due to behavior. After seeing his videos, and having heeler experience, I knew he needed out in order to let his true self shine and wasn’t a death sentence.

Plans were set - to pick up a healthy dog who was just SCARED. No medical notes…

Bonnie arrived to pick him up and retrieved Blu…with fresh blood shot eyes, injured tail, horrified, and traumatized.

Medical attention was needed immediately. Why?!!!! MISS HANDLING! (Pics in comments). 1k later in damages that were not there prior to catching and crating him.

Now, his eyes have healed, tail amputated and a neuter. Thank you to ALL who have committed to donating. Almost all his bills have been covered.

He’s still recovering and having his temperament and behavior assessed before he’ll be placed appropriately in the perfect forever home ❤️

Here are some amazing pics of Blu post his freedom ride - the face of a dog who was abused to the point of critical medical attention for “behavior”…
Thank you Bonnie for your incredible commitment ❤️ Because of you, Blu is alive

She came here in 2021 and she moved on to a greater place this week 🌈
Star came from a 4H program and got to live her life outside of a stall and off a plate unlike many others whose fate doesn’t end up the same.
She has been the best role model and goat advocate here and has changed so many lives and touched every child’s ❤️ who came across her path.

She’d be 12 next month.

Rest in Love my girl. You have always been so strong and have left a major legacy here.

I knew this day was coming but it’s never easy.

Please welcome Brad! Our long overdue and recent intake who is an owner surrender due to the San Diego Humane Society stepping in after many high school students called in concerned about his wounds and living conditions.

Thanks to their ERT team, he was safely transported here voluntarily and Brad is settling in well and learning all his clean, safe and new surroundings! We plan on giving him a little bit of time to settle in before we have the vet out. We will work with gaining his trust to halter him more easily and things along the line, including starting his new diet program, etc.

Today, thanks to his transport team, they put a fly mask on him, did his first dose of deworming, and put lotion and swat on his wounds to make him more comfortable.

Another huge thanks to our friends for initially sending my referral for him! Also to my friend for being there for us and following up since day one!

It takes a village!

We have some pretty hefty medical bills coming our way for Brad, so any donation email is greatly appreciated! We will continue to update more soon!
