Coptic book binding is an ancient, glue-free sewing technique that dates back to the 2nd century AD and adapts beautifully to modern materials. This versatile binding style is the perfect option for using wood, metal, plastic and other unusual materials for covers. Completely non-adhesive with an exposed spine, Coptic books lay flat when opened and can be expanded to a full 360 degrees.

In this two hour workshop you will create a simple, yet elegant book structure. You will fold, punch and sew a Coptic binding with covers made of decorative binder’s board and pages. All materials will be provided. No experience necessary. Spanish interpreter and ESL interpreter available upon request at [email protected].

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Camden County Cultural & Heritage Commission, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Department of State, and the New Jersey Historical Commission.
