The Northern Virginia Chapter of the Florida A&M University National Alumni Association believes that our Rattler spirit extends far beyond the Hill. It’s about service, community, and investing in the next generation!

Thanks to the incredible support of our HBCU Spades Tournament & Back-to-School Giveaway, we were able to provide school supplies to FOUR local schools:

🎒 Hampton Middle School
📚 Fred Lynn Middle School
✏️ Featherstone Elementary School
📓 Swan Creek Elementary School

Every notebook, folder, pencil, and school supply represents an opportunity to help a student walk into the classroom prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

A very special THANK YOU to everyone who purchased a ticket, made a donation, sponsored, volunteered, played a hand of Spades, or simply helped spread the word. Your support made this possible!

This is what happens when we gather with a purpose. We had a great time at the tournament, but the real win was being able to pour those resources right back into our community.

Strike, Strike, and Strike Again!

Before the cards were shuffled, the tables were set, or the first “BOOK!” was called, there was a committee working behind the scenes to make the HBCU Spades Tournament & Back-to-School Supply Giveaway happen.

From planning to promotions, school supplies, logistics, and all the little details nobody see. this committee showed up and showed out.

What started as an idea became an event with a purpose: bringing people together through a game we love while giving back to students in our community.

THAT takes a team.

Today, we celebrate the people behind the tournament. The calls, texts, meetings, ideas, pivots, and “who was supposed to handle that?” moments.

To our HBCU Spades Tournament Committee: THANK YOU. Your time, energy, creativity, and commitment made this possible.

Because when HBCUs come together, we don’t just play cards…

Drop a 👏🏾 in the comments and help us show some love to the committee!

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of justice. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom. This historic moment reminds us that freedom, while promised, must also be protected, celebrated, and advanced.

As FAMUans, we recognize the power of education, leadership, and community in shaping a brighter future. Juneteenth calls us to reflect on the sacrifices of those who came before us, celebrate the progress that has been made, and recommit ourselves to creating opportunities for generations to come.

May this day inspire us to continue walking in excellence, uplifting our communities, and honoring the legacy of those whose courage and perseverance made our journeys possible.

Happy Juneteenth!
