Our 2023 Annual Holiday Toy Drive (AKA "Fill the Table" event) has broken all of our previous records! We were thrilled to provide Family Promise with nearly 200 toy donations as well as clothing and book donations! Thank you so much to everyone who supported our collection, donated, coordinated community efforts and more! We were so humbled by the generosity shown! Following our collection, all items were packed up and sent to Family Promise of Union County to be prepared for distribution. Ms. Joanne, Mr. Joe and Ms. Ashley joined in the distribution efforts to assist families in "shopping" for their child's holiday gifts! Our school families were also able to sign up to assist in toy distribution as well.

Thank you to our KACO Village:
We wanted to send a huge thank you to all of our center families, staff and students for participating in our collection. It was wonderful to watch so many students loading up the gift table and talking about why they selected specific toys to give. Also, thank you to the Colonia community for using our local drop box to participate in the spirit of gift giving as well. Please join us in recognizing the following people: Magda (one of our super moms!) who manages our local Walgreens. Magda came up with the idea to add a donation bin at her branch for the community to participate in our collection as well! Magda made multiple deliveries of toys to us throughout the collection period! We also want to recognize Alyssa (another super mom!) who coordinated multiple donations from her team at Target! Last but not least, we want to recognize our incredible vendors! Discount School Supply came to the rescue and donated 5 cases of toys! Also, our friends at Kaplan Early Learning Company donated some fantastic STEM toys!

Lastly, we also want to recognize the emergency clothing donations that came in from many of our families. While distributing toys, we noticed a high need for clothing from parents coming through and a rapidly depleting supply. We immediately posted an SOS to our families and arrived to multiple clothing donations first thing Monday morning. Because of this, additional clothing resources were able to be provided along with our toy collection. Thank you!

Why are Holiday Collections so Important?
During the holidays, families struggle with stretching already tight budgets in an effort to provide their children with a special holiday. This time of year frequently leaves families in debt or with significantly depleted financial resources. By participating in a Holiday Toy Drive, you are assisting families in maintaining the limited funds they have to ensure household bills are paid and shelter is maintained. This also allows their children to fully participate in and enjoy the holiday. Childhood is a fleeting time, and it is important to fill that time with cherished memories for children and their families. Family Promise of Union County had a unique approach to giving this year. They set up a "store" complete with various sections for participants to "shop" in. This wonderful idea gave families a sense of normalcy, and autonomy in selecting the perfect items for their child. If you would like to participate in next year's efforts, please contact Amy Jones at Family Promise of Union County.

Our Night Without a Bed Event in support of families facing displacement was a huge success! Our student's families raised $600 in donations which was matched, dollar for dollar by our center's owners. We were excited to have a total donation to Family Promise of $1,200 which we learned was the highest amount raised company-wide!!!! Thank you so much to our wonderful families for participating and helping us keep our local families in need safe and housed.
Wondering how donations impact Family Promise recipients?
$10 Donation: Can feed a child for 1 day
$15 Donation: Can wash 100 loads of laundry
$25 Donation: Can provide a family with a month’s worth of hygiene products.
$50 Donation: Can cover a working parents transportation for 1 month
$100 Donation: Can provide one day of shelter, meals and case management for a family in need.

Why are events like Night Without a Bed so Important?
Did you know that nearly 2.5 million children will face homelessness just this year? Imagine your evening routines with your family; having dinner together at home, completing homework, preparing clothing/ lunches for the next day, reading bed time stories etc. So many families face homelessness and are unable to have these routines. They struggle to have enough food for dinner, a safe place to sleep, a quite space for homework etc. Organizations like Family Promise assist families in keeping them in safe housing, providing them with the essentials and assisting them in getting back into permanent housing with a pathway filled with support to reach goals and leave worry and fears behind. Events like this help to keep these programs funded so they can continue to provide the care needed to assist these families. If you would like to help support displaced families in your area, consider connecting with your local branch of Family Promise. There are opportunities to volunteer, become a partner, become an affiliate or join The Promise Guild. Together, we can be the difference and make a lasting impact.

Our annual Thanksgiving Food Collection continues to grow each year! We were thrilled to be able to provide Family Promise of Union County with over 10 overflowing cases of food! Our students and families joined together to help provide recipients with a Thanksgiving filled with all of the staples as well as extra goodies!

Why are Food Collections so important?
Food collections are important at all times of the year but play a crucial role during the holidays. Often during the holiday season, tight budgets are pushed to their max in an effort to provide special extras for one's family. This often results in the rising cost of food becoming an additional burden when attempting to purchase items not regularly budgeted for. Participating in a food collection means giving a struggling family the opportunity to enjoy the holiday and have additional financial burdens lifted.

Character Education is at the heart of what we do. It's teaching our students to be good humans by leveraging our Character Education curriculum. Through this program, students are able to have a larger impact on not only themselves and their households, but also the community we live in.

"We all want our children to grow up to be good people.
We want them to be kind, proud and strong.
We want them to be good citizens.
That’s why our Character EssentialsSM curriculum is so important to us."

Kicking off our Kiddie Academy of Colonia Cares page with some of the wonderful ways our center, students, families and faculty have touched the community this year! For the 2023-2024 school year, our location has committed to hosting a number of efforts geared towards supporting displaced families receiving support through Family Promise.

Our efforts began in late August with a Back to School Supply Collection! Many of our students and their families joined in our efforts and made countless supply donations to ensure children receiving support from Family Promise had the essentials they needed to kick off their school year! Our school owners donated cases of back packs that we were then able to provide, filled with wish list items and all sorts of extra goodies. With prior donations to Family Promise having been exhausted and potential recipients still remaining, our center's donations came at a pivotal time. We were thrilled to learn that any remaining recipients would now be able to receive the essentials they needed.

Why are School Supply Drives so important?
Each year, thousands of children return to school without the supplies required to complete their assignments. As a result, those students are not able to fully participate in all educational activities causing them to fall behind, feel defeated or develop negative feelings towards school. We can counteract this by supporting students with the essentials they need to be successful, offering our time for tutoring and mentoring. Please remember that no effort is too small to have a big impact!
