🏡 THEY ARE HOME! 🏡
Deedee and Dexter’s story may have been filled with heartache before, but from this moment forward, it’s filled with love, family, and forever. ❤️
These two were saved from a house fire by a neighbor, only for everyone to discover that they had been living in absolutely deplorable conditions. The warden removed them, and they were taken to the shelter in rough shape.
Deedee had two large masses removed and was suffering from a horrible skin condition. Dexter had arthritis and hip issues, and his fur was missing in many places. They had been through so much already.
Everyone knew almost immediately that Deedee would struggle if she lost Dexter. But finding a home for a bonded senior pair is hard enough — finding one for two dogs who needed so much medical care and TLC felt almost impossible, especially coming from a county shelter.
One of their favorite volunteers, Paula Hayden, never stopped talking about them. She shared their story, posted about them, and made sure people knew these two deserved better.
Then one day, someone reached out to us wanting to foster a bonded pair.
We immediately knew the perfect duo. ❤️
Deedee and Dexter were transferred to SERF, and over the past few weeks, their foster family has watched something truly special happen. They have watched these two blossom. They have watched their personalities come out. They have watched them begin to feel safe.
And then their fosters realized something…
They don't need to go through another change.
At their ages, after everything they have already endured, they deserve to stay exactly where they are — surrounded by the people who love them.
So today, we are beyond excited to announce that Deedee and Dexter are officially HOME! 🥹❤️🏡
This is the reason we do what we do.
Is rescue hard? Absolutely.
Does it break your heart sometimes? Without a doubt.
But is it worth it?
1000% YES. ❤️
