We are a non-partisan group of concerned citizens that are in favor of responsible economic development, but do not feel large-scale data centers are a responsible choice for our communities.

According to the terms of a legal settlement finalized on Friday, Wisconsin is set to become one of the few states in the country to conduct a comprehensive review of the environmental impacts of data center development. A statewide review is essential for making informed decisions about how, where and under what conditions data centers should be developed in Wisconsin.

The settlement resolves a lawsuit filed by MEA on behalf of the Sierra Club after the DNR issued permits for the Vantage data center campus in Port Washington without fully evaluating its environmental consequences.

According to the terms of the settlement:

✅ The DNR must analyze demands on water and energy resources, impacts on air quality and climate, and the effects of related infrastructure such as power plants and transmission lines.

✅ Vantage Data Centers must pay for all costs related to the environmental analysis.

✅ The public must have an opportunity to provide input.

Just a reminder that this meeting is being held according to Wisconsin Rapids bylaws. There is no public comment period included, as public comment was a part of the public hearing last month at the Planning Commission meeting. Let us know if you have any other questions!

A reminder, this meeting was always going to happen. PNK is not getting more and more chances or anything like that. This is the process that would have happened in the spring had it not been slowed down.

Tuesday's meeting will be held at WRAMS, please note there are detours.

In our meeting this evening at the library, we discussed Flock cameras/ALPR technologies. The Wisconsin Rapids Committee Of The Whole voted yesterday to contact Flock to inquire about discontinuing their contract with Flock for the city of WR.

We also discussed the other name brands of ALPR cameras. Here is a graphic of some of those brands. Please comment below with any further info you may have 🙂
