Last night’s bike skills session at the Methow Trails Skills Park was packed with information and fun. Jessica and Dave Dewbrey did an incredible job sharing their years of bike knowledge and safety with our Cubs. The goal is simple — build safe, confident little shredders, and these kids are well on their way.

Methow Trails Pump Track

This week Cubmaster Jessica will be leading a hands‑on session focused on bike safety basics. Scouts will learn:

• Helmet fit and safety checks
• Proper hand signals
• Safe and controlled braking
• Trail etiquette and awareness

Please bring your bike, helmet, closed‑toe shoes, an after‑school snack, and of course your brave face. It’s going to be a fun, confidence‑building evening on the pump track.

Taking the Cubs to one of my favorite places, doing one of my favorite things, ended up being a top‑ten day for me. We had eight strong Cubs out on the trail, buddying up in four groups — and they absolutely nailed their roles.

• Trail Blazers leading the way with confidence
• Gear Checkers making sure water breaks happened and shoes stayed tied
• Animal Trackers scanning for s**t, prints, and signs of wildlife
• Sweep Crew keeping everyone accounted for and moving together

They hiked through beautiful new growth forest, where colors are changing, all the way to Beaver Lake. The Cubs caught crawdads, cooked them right on site, and every scout got to try a bite. It was hands‑on, outdoorsy, and full of magic.

🌲 Cub Scout Adventure Day — This Saturday!
📅 Saturday, September 26
⏰ Meet at 9:30 AM
📍 Blue Star Coffee (Twisp)

We’re heading out on a Cub Scout hike to Beaver Lake (coordinates: 48.4681, -119.8836). We’ll carpool from Blue Star and make our way up together.

This is an easy 2.0‑mile round‑trip hike with about 5,500 feet of elevation gain—perfect for our fall adventure and a great chance to introduce the Cubs to the Buddy System. Each Scout will choose a buddy and practice staying aware, communicating, and looking out for their partner throughout the entire outing.

What to Bring:

• Warm clothes
• Hiking shoes
• Backpack
• Water & snacks
• Optional: collapsing fishing pole, crawdad net

The weather looks a little iffy, so if we need to pivot plans, your Den Leaders will let you know.

We’re excited for a fun, confidence‑building day on the trail with our Cubs.

Way to go, Cubs — and our honorary Cub Scout sister!
You all showed up in such a big way and turned your creativity into real exhibit‑ready projects at the Okanogan County Fair.

Soren Halm entered his homemade sewn pillow from one of our den meetings — blue Danish ribbon!

Rory Halm, our right‑hand gal even though she’s not a Cub Scout, entered her homegrown and dried chamomile–lavender night blend tea and her hand‑crocheted baby blanket — Grand Champion for the tea and a blue Danish for the blanket!

Orion McLean entered a Lego pirate ship and a presentation board showing the different turkey feathers he’s collected over the year, labeled by which part of the body they come from — blue Danish for the Lego, blue Danish plus a special award for the feathers!

Everson Fosness entered the pumpkins he grew this year and a large yellow onion — both earning blue Danish ribbons with first‑place stickers!

So proud of these kids and the effort they put in. Growth happens when creative minds meet a drive to excel .

Duck races might have been our best adventure yet. The Cubs built their own little flotation devices and sent their ducks flying down the Methow River — from the suspension bridge all the way to the car bridge in downtown Winthrop.

Huge thank‑you to our amazing parent volunteers for jumping in, getting soaked, and leaning into the silliness right alongside the kids.

Happy second week back to school, Scouts!!
We are thrilled to be meeting again and settling back into our normal school‑year rhythm.

Our next Cub Scout meeting is this Wednesday, September 9th at 5:00 PM at The Drop Zone in Winthrop (the outside deck picnic table).

This week, the Cubs will be constructing their own flotation boats for their rubber ducks and then floating them from the suspension bridge to the white driving bridge downtown Winthrop. It’s a fun, hands‑on activity that teaches buoyancy, balance, hydrodynamics, and of course a little friendly competition.

We can’t wait to see everyone on Wednesday.

Sewing camping pillows was such a blast! Huge thanks to Twisp Covenant Church for welcoming us into your community space — it made all the difference. Our Cubs were so proud of themselves for creating these cozy little masterpieces and bravely using needles that felt just a bit dangerous.

A special shout‑out to Erika, Shaina, and Rory for helping run all the stations and keeping the energy fun and encouraging.

Hey Cub Scouts!
We’re finally meeting again this Wednesday, August 12th at 5:00 PM! 🎉

Because of the heat, smoke, and some location juggling, we’ll need to stay a little flexible on our exact spot — but we will be gathering and creating together.

This week we’re kicking off our first sewing workshop! Each Scout will get to learn how to pin, measure, machine sew, and hand sew as we work in three small groups. Our goal: to make our very own lightweight backpacking pillows to use on future adventures.

Last night reminded me why supporting young kids as they learn new skills — and step into things that feel uncomfortable — matters so much to me. Standing at the lake with the Cubs, watching lightning crack across the sky and thunder roll through while they reeled in Blue Gill and Perch, felt almost magical. The rain was pouring, everyone soaked, but the excitement never dipped. We all gathered together to watch the dispatching process, cooked the fish right there in the storm, and handed each Scout a bite as they took shelter. It felt a little like survival mode, but also full of giggles, courage, and life. Moments like that make this work feel deeply worth it.
