There is a person working with the Maine State Historian to write a book about all the civil war monuments in Maine. They are including our Cushing Memorial monument and have asked if we had a vintage picture of the memorial. We cannot find one in the museum. Does anyone know of one? He would like to have it by April 15.

We are restarting our Heritage Series.

We'll start with rural, farm life in outback Winterport. Both Betty Hauger and Jeanne Wilson grew up on farmsteads here in town. They both have gone through the Winterport school systems and grew up when the town had lively town hall events and parades. Jeanne will tell us how Winterport Pizza got its start and Betty fondly remembers the Live Nativity.

April 9 at 6pm at the museum. We will start the video promptly at 6:30. We hope to have the front door ready but if you see plywood please proceed around to the side door.

This is also a chance to see the transformation this beautiful old building has taken into a place for research and holder of our town's artifacts.

We have more progress on the ceiling!

The Front Room and the Research Room are also getting sheet rocked and painted. This is a huge job! Because we would not want to rush, the March meeting will need to be postponed to April. We’ll definitely keep you updated, but… tentatively April 9, 6pm. WHA does the second Thursday.

The ceiling renovation has started! Ron's Moving has carefully moved the artifacts from the Main Hall into the Research Room and Front Room. BJ Moore will sheetrock and paint that ceiling. Then Ron's Moving will move all the contents from these two side rooms into the Main Hall and BJ Moore will sheetrock those ceilings. Once that is completed, we can plan Open Hours so that you can visit our town's heritage.

The museum's front door is presently being refurbished! The museum was erected in 1864 as the vestry for the Union Meeting House. The front door is the original. This door as well as the side door were in dire need of repair. The side door is original from the addition built on in 1883. We have Oak Point Building & Millwork, Jeff Verrill and his sons Ben and Sam, to thank for this work. The side door is complete, and we consider it a work of art. The color has changed from green to red. Red is considered a welcoming color for a front door.

The Research Room in the museum is becoming a reality. Here is where you could look into the history of your home or your land, perhaps your family, anything to do with Winterport that may interest you. When do you think the museum should be open? Please comment on the best days and hours during the day.
