Join us for a powerful MLK Jr Holiday Weekend experience!
Book your seat(s) for one of our MLK Jr Holiday Weekend Freedom Rides. The Freedom Ride is a local pilgrimage that explores the untold stories of Black faith, courage, creativity, & power-building in the face of oppression in the city of Winston-Salem. The Drum Majors Alliance & Lit City have facilitated Freedom Rides since 2012 & hundreds of folks have shared in this incredible experience. This special Freedom Ride will be framed by the life, words, & witness of Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Jr who spoke in Winston-Salem on two occasions.
Identical freedom ride experiences will take place on Saturday, January 17th 11am-1:30pm & 3:00pm-5:30pm; Sunday, January 18th 3:00pm-5:30pm; and Monday, January 19th 11am-1:30pm & 3:00pm-5:30pm.
Participants will board a van at the Old Salem Visitor Center and ride to historic sites in the city of Winston-Salem. At each site, stories are lifted up that demonstrate - in the words of James Baldwin - that “we are trapped in a history, and a history is trapped in us.”
The cost for the Freedom Ride is $30 and must be paid in advance to secure your space on the Freedom Ride via Cashapp, Venmo, or PayPal as spots for each ride are limited. (If you need to arrange an alternate payment method, please email [email protected].) Light refreshments will be provided & a portion of the proceeds from these Freedom Rides will go towards our grassroots efforts to build in solidarity with & to enrich the lives of Black youth in Winston-Salem.
