This is a “blast from the past” moment that changed everything.

A quiet table.
A signed document.
A step of faith.

This was the moment New Communion became a 501(c)(3) — not just paperwork, but the start of a dream to serve our community with dignity and consistency.

Ten years later… it has mattered.

🚨We Need Your Help — Now More Than Ever 🚨

For 10 years, New Communion has shown up for our community — providing food, support, and dignity to families who need it most.

But today, we’re facing something we’ve never faced before.

Due to the various policy changes impacting nonprofits across the country, we have lost critical funding — and it has now reached us in a very real way.

As we step into what should be a season of celebrating 10 years of service… we are also facing the uncertainty of whether we can continue at the same capacity moving forward.

This is hard to say — but it’s the truth.

We’ve never been about headlines or attention. We’ve just quietly done the work.
But right now, we can’t stay silent.

🧡We need our community.

If New Communion has ever made a difference — for you, someone you know, or simply because you believe in what we do — this is the moment to step in.

Every gift, no matter the size, helps us keep food on the shelves and hope in reach for the families who depend on us.

This isn’t just about funding.
It’s about whether we can continue showing up the way we have for the past 10 years.

We believe in this community. We believe in what we’ve built together.
And we’re asking you to stand with us — right now.

🌸 Easter at New Communion 🌸

For the past 10 years, there’s been something special about Easter at New Communion.

It’s more than a distribution — it’s a moment where community shows up, hope is shared, and neighbors are reminded they’re not alone.

Every year, we’ve seen smiles, stories, and generosity come together in a powerful way… and it never gets old.

✨ And this year? It means even more. ✨

We can’t wait to gather again and make this Easter just as meaningful as the ones before.

💛 We can’t wait to celebrate with you! Save the date—Friday, October 23rd—as we honor 10 years of community, connection, and story. More details and registration information are coming soon. Stay tuned!

In 2016, New Communion Pantry began with a need we couldn’t ignore.

Ten years later, that same commitment is still at the heart of everything we do.

What started with a simple belief — that no one in our community should face hunger alone — has grown into a decade of consistent care, dignity, and support.

🎉 We’re Turning 10! 🎉

This year, New Communion celebrates 10 years of feeding our community with dignity, compassion, and consistency.

For a decade, neighbors have come together to ensure that families in our area don’t have to face food insecurity alone. What began as a simple response to a need has grown into a steady, trusted source of support — and that’s worth celebrating.

This fall, we’ll be hosting a special 10-Year Anniversary Celebration Event to honor the journey, recognize the people who made it possible, and look ahead to the next decade of impact.

More details are coming soon — including the date, location, and how you can be part of this milestone moment.

Thank you for being part of our story. The best is still ahead. 🧡

Join us for a powerful MLK Jr Holiday Weekend experience!

Book your seat(s) for one of our MLK Jr Holiday Weekend Freedom Rides. The Freedom Ride is a local pilgrimage that explores the untold stories of Black faith, courage, creativity, & power-building in the face of oppression in the city of Winston-Salem. The Drum Majors Alliance & Lit City have facilitated Freedom Rides since 2012 & hundreds of folks have shared in this incredible experience. This special Freedom Ride will be framed by the life, words, & witness of Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Jr who spoke in Winston-Salem on two occasions.

Identical freedom ride experiences will take place on Saturday, January 17th 11am-1:30pm & 3:00pm-5:30pm; Sunday, January 18th 3:00pm-5:30pm; and Monday, January 19th 11am-1:30pm & 3:00pm-5:30pm.

Participants will board a van at the Old Salem Visitor Center and ride to historic sites in the city of Winston-Salem. At each site, stories are lifted up that demonstrate - in the words of James Baldwin - that “we are trapped in a history, and a history is trapped in us.”

The cost for the Freedom Ride is $30 and must be paid in advance to secure your space on the Freedom Ride via Cashapp, Venmo, or PayPal as spots for each ride are limited. (If you need to arrange an alternate payment method, please email [email protected].) Light refreshments will be provided & a portion of the proceeds from these Freedom Rides will go towards our grassroots efforts to build in solidarity with & to enrich the lives of Black youth in Winston-Salem.

Go to bit.ly/mlkfreedomride26 to RSVP.
