With years of animal rescue and fostering experience between them, a group of friends recognized the need for a canine only rescue group in the Triad area. Consolidating their shared goal to help dogs of all breeds find the best possible home, while also matching adopters with their ideal companion, they joined forces to create a new rescue group. Stones Canine Rescue is a charitable and educational non-profit corporation, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Our volunteers share an enthusiasm for dogs and support a mission to rescue, protect, provide sanctuary and ultimately find adoptive families for abandoned, stray and neglected dogs. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes where they are provided with an enormous amount of love and any medical attention needed to insure their best health before adoption. All dogs are evaluated for temperament and personality, helping us to place them in homes that are well suited to their needs and to the needs of their future family.

Newbie Alert! People are dumping dogs at dog parks left and right. And... that's how we met Whisper. Fun fact. She was microchipped, so we were able to trace her history. Whisper was adopted from a local county shelter, and over the course of one month, she was given away - possibly multiple times. The last person who had her decided to abandon her at the dog park in Winston with a bag of food. We took her into foster care and were able to track down her medical records. This sweet girl has been decompressing in foster care and is now ready for a home of her own! Read more about Whisper below!

Breed: Border Collie Mix (she could also be Aussie mix.. shows traits of both)

DOB: Approximately 2 years old

Weight: 40 lbs

Likes: Chasing squirrels and birds, running, treats, ice cubes, and snuggling

Crate Trained/HouseBroken: Yes/Yes

Fenced Yard Required: Depends on the home environment and activity level

Energy Level: Calm and relaxed indoors, energetic and active outdoors

Good With Dogs/Cats/Kids:

- Dogs: Yes, gets along great with other dogs
- Cats: Unknown, has not been introduced to cats
- Kids: Yes, though initially shy around new people, including children

Medical Care: Whisper has had all age appropriate shots, is on monthly heartworm and flea prevention, spayed and has been microchipped.

Foster Notes: She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and tends to have a confident, slightly alpha personality. She loves to run, explore, and go on long walks, and she walks very well on a leash. She can be skittish at first around new adults and children, but she is never aggressive and does not bark excessively. She prefers not to be left alone and is happiest when she can see her person nearby. She goes into her crate without issue but does experience anxiety when left alone for extended periods.

Babe exudes happiness wherever she goes - especially when you talk to her 🥰 We shifted Babe to a different foster home yesterday since her puppies are fully weaned and she was ready to give up her mom duties. Now she can just be a dog, free of parental responsibilities! Since several people have asked, Babe will not attend the yoga event tomorrow. She will be going to the vet next week for vaccines and heartworm testing, and then she will have her spay. As long as all goes well, we anticipate being able to introduce her to people in about 2 weeks, so stay tuned!
