Haaaave you met, Jamie?
Jamie is a member of our first iteration of The Collective: 001. Actively aiding and enriching the arts and culture in Winston-Salem!
Rotted Hands, also known as Jamie Crowder, is a Winston-Salem based artist that has spent most of his life creating in North Carolina. Jamie has always been interested in the arts, a passion he credits to his older sister. While this pursuit began with drawing lessons from his sister, Jamie is ultimately self-taught. To this he has credited his investigative outlook on art. They are always looking for another technique to apply to his oil paintings, with a tendency to favor the use of collage and the layering of paint. His works focus on trauma, much of which he experienced in his childhood, growing up othered by family and community. This is due to Jamie identifying on the trans-masculine spectrum’. Queerness itself has a large impact on Jamie’s art. Rotted Hands goal is to give a sense of solidarity for the q***r viewer in his poetry and multimedia paintings.
Today, he volunteers with Winston-Salem local non-profit Peacework Medical in leading the trans-masculine support group. He attributes work with the local Transgender community to giving him the encouragement he needed to start selling his art at art markets all around North Carolina and having his first art exhibit with fellow artists at Camino Bakery, Winston-Salem. He is looking forward to expanding his artistic reach by working to put on a solo art exhibit within the next year and continuing to push himself into different art mediums.
If you don’t already follow him, you should! Continue to support local artists and uplifting their creative careers!
