Engage Winona

Engage Winona Engage Winona strengthens communities in SE MN by reigniting community participation through conversations, support, and training.

Our vision is of a community where everyone is welcomed, heard and included; sees themselves as community leaders and changemakers; and has the tools and resources to create change that supports a resilient, inclusive community. We focus on three areas that encompass the cycle of community leadership and changemaking:

GATHER: We host conversations, dialogues, storytelling events, and other creati

ve and innovative gatherings that bring folks together across traditional divides to learn from each other, connect in new ways, and create shared visions for the community’s future. BUILD: We build capacity: In individual changemakers, through workshops, trainings, mentorships, and cohort leadership programs; and in groups and organizations through organizing, facilitation, goal-setting, resource connections, and technical support. ACT: We support changemakers and amplify their voices as they bring their skills and visions to organizing, direct action, advocacy, and community service. Engage Winona strives to make community engagement inclusive, generative — and joyful — for all.

May flew by, and we're excited to share what's been going on!

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Winona Area Kitchen Tables workshops this month! We learned, we connected, and we had some genuinely great conversations.

We heard from the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund about their emerging Developers Program, and from City Planner Luke Sims who helped us make sense of zoning in our own backyard, and how to say to more neighbors!

This June, we are wrapping up the season with Home Ownership 101, brought to you in partnership Habitat for Humanity serving Winona County Thinking about buying a home someday? Curious about ways to support new neighbors? This one is for you. Come hang out and learn with us!

We had a great time at the last Lived Experience Leaders Workshop with The Joy Labs last week! We learned together, ate snacks, and did some mindful coloring.

It was truly uplifting to be in a room full of supportive community members learning how to take better care of ourselves and those around us 🩷

We are so excited for the next workshop on Tuesday, May 26th at the Winona County History Center! This FREE session will be all about Values-Driven Action for Changemakers. All are welcome and can RSVP through the link in bio!

Did you know that 70% of local, nonpartisan offices in Minnesota ran uncontested in the last election? That means critical decisions about roads, schools, and communities are being made without full representation!

Local offices are where democracy is most tangible, and when no one runs, everyone loses.

That's why Run4Rural exists. Our Program and Communications Manager, Isabel McNally, recently joined the good folks at The Daily Yonder to talk about what it can look like to strengthen communities from within, and how we are working to help support folks to show up and lead in their communities.

And that's a wrap on the second round of the Community Builders Book Club! 📚

We had a great time yesterday at the discussing 'Palaces for the People' by Eric Klinenberg. The passion resonated by this group when talking about social infrastructure like the Library, the local coffee shops, and the many public parks and their impact on our community was powerful 🫶

Miss this round but interested in what we read? Check out our website for a complete list of Community Builders Book Club reads! https://www.engagewinona.org/book-club
