DID YOU KNOW? This is GREAT NEWS.
Congrats to all.

Beginning tomorrow, our community will reach a significant milestone: every City Fire and Rescue fire apparatus will be staffed with a minimum of three certified firefighter/EMTs. This marks tremendous progress since 2020, when the Department often responded with only one firefighter/EMT assigned to each vehicle.

This achievement enhances firefighter safety and improves the level of emergency service provided to our residents.

Thank you to our taxpayers and City Council for their continued investment in public safety, and to our Fire and Rescue team for securing a FEMA Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant that funded these positions. This is a momentous milestone for both the City and the Department, and one that will directly benefit our community.

We are gearing up for our annual 5K Race again this year on October 10 at 8am. It will start on the downtown walking mall in front of Village Square Restaurant and V2 Oyster Bar & Lounge. We are happy to have them as our restroom and starting location sponsor again this year. Registration details will be out soon. This is open to the public ages 12 and up.Tell your family and friends to come join us.

Our Foundation was the beneficiary last year for the proceeds from the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber and Bank of Clarke Valor Awards. The funds were given to the Wi******er Fire and Rescue Department to purchase a thermal blanket to use in emergencies that will reduce the instance of thermal runoff from lithium ion batteries and allow the safe transport of an electric vehicle by tow companies. The issue with electric vehicles is the very high heat and the need for copious amounts of water to distinguish them. The fire blanket is an asset in the battle by covering the vehicle and restricting the amount of oxygen needed by the fire . The blanket takes the oxygen away, does not let the fire grow and protects the fire from consuming anything around the vehicle.
The blanket was purchased and a training was held. We wanted to share them with you.
