“It was time that real flesh and blood stood up before our organization and asked to be heard and listened to and understood, insofar as that is possible.”
— Dr. John Fryer, 1972
Today is Pride in Wi******er. 🏳️🌈
Before heading downtown this morning, I stopped at the historical marker honoring Wi******er native Dr. John Fryer — a man whose courage helped change the way the medical profession viewed LGBTQ+ people.
More than 50 years after he stood up and asked that real flesh and blood be heard, listened to, and understood, we gather in his hometown to do exactly that: to be visible, to celebrate one another, and to make space for our community to simply be.
It’s 5 AM and I’m heading downtown now to start preparing for Wi******er Pride + Inclusion Festival.
We’ve worked incredibly hard for this day, and we can’t wait to welcome you to Depot Street.
Happy Pride, Wi******er. 🏳️🌈❤️
