Did you know?

The decision to build at Apple Pie Ridge came after years of listening, studying and planning together.

Beginning in 2014, members across the congregation participated in meetings to talk about our ministries and what First Church would need for the future. In 2016, the Building Study Report found that renovating our existing facility would be costly and limiting, while Apple Pie Ridge offered more opportunities for growth, accessibility and outreach.

That work helped chart the path forward, a path that, nearly a decade later, is bringing us to our Sept. 13, 10 a.m. Groundbreaking.

As students, teachers and school staff continue to settle back into the rhythms of a new school year, we’re holding them in prayer.

May students find confidence, curiosity, good friends and joy in learning. May teachers and staff have patience, energy and plenty of moments that remind them why their work matters.

And Lord, be especially near to the parents and caregivers navigating early alarms, packed lunches, homework, and the eternal mystery of where that other sock went.

Before Apple Pie Ridge. Before Braddock Street. Before we were even called First United Methodist Church…

We started in a blacksmith shop.

In 1870, just 17 members gathered as the United Brethren Wi******er Station, with a 10-cent offering. Three years later, the congregation built its first church at Braddock Street and Fairfax Lane.

More than 150 years later, we’re preparing to build again. Join us on Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. at 362 Apple Pie Ridge Rd. for our Groundbreaking and Worship!

First Church’s journey to Apple Pie Ridge began 30 years ago.

In 1996, the church purchased 16 acres on Apple Pie Ridge Road with an eye toward the future, creating space for ministry and growth. What began as a long-term investment became the foundation for decades of prayer, discernment and planning.

And now, on Sept. 13 at 10 a.m., we’ll gather on that same property to break ground on our new church home!

There’s lots to celebrate at First Church!

First and foremost, welcome back Pastor Sean! We're thrilled to have you back in the pulpit - and a huge thank you to those who provided worship service and pastoral care for us over the past two months.

As we head toward September, there’s plenty happening around First Church. Our Sept. 13 Groundbreaking & Outdoor Worship Celebration is just over two weeks away, choir rehearsals are beginning, and we’re celebrating an incredible summer blood drive that collected 45 units of blood for our community!

🌳 Did you know?

Apple Pie Ridge may be the site of our future church home, but it’s already been home to plenty of First Church memories!

Over the years, we’ve gathered at our outdoor campus for worship services, Vacation Bible School, fall festivals, concerts and picnics, Next Generation Youth Group bonfires - and even summer fun with water games and inflatables!

And soon, we’ll add something new to the story: our new church building! As we prepare to break ground on Sept. 13 at 10 a.m., we’re excited for all the ways 362 Apple Pie Ridge Rd. will continue to be a place to gather and grow together for years to come.
