The Nosey Nydians Clowns are a not-for-profit unit of volunteer members of the Daughters of the Nile, Nydia Temple No. 4, Wilsonville, Oregon. Our objective and aim is to promote, encourage and foster an interest in our organization while spreading cheer and laughter to all that we meet. We hope to foster clowning entertainment within our local communities by attending events, parades, and other social events in efforts to support and provide community exposure to Shriners Hospitals for Children® and Daughters of the Nile.
The inspiration of forming a Clown Unit was conceived at the Boise Supreme Daughters of the Nile Session in the summer of 2024. Some of our Temple attendees saw a few lady clowns performing and started conversing about forming a Clown Unit for Nydia Temple No. 4 as it looked like a lot of fun. One of our Nydia Temple No. 4 members had been a clown in a unit in California so the conspiring began! In November 2024, the interested members met with our Temple Queen and formed a Clown Unit for Nydia Temple No. 4 with the following five charter members:
Daisy – Princess Dawn Jackson (President)
Pinkie – Princess Alicia Johnson (Vice President)
Bubbles – Princess Sue Nash (Director)
Cookie – Princess Sherilynn Mobley (Secretary)
Cuddles – Princess Winnie Carey (Treasurer)
On January 11, 2024 the Nosey Nydians Clown Unit made their very first debut performance at a Nydia Temple No. 4 Ceremonial and were met with a lot of giggles, laughs, smiles and encouragement from the Princesses in attendance. We even gained FOUR new members from the performance as they saw the fun we were having and wanted to join in too bringing our unit to nine Clown Princesses strong.
Each of our Clowns have created their own look, persona and individual skills we are working to master like face painting, balloon art, and skits. All of us are very happy to share our skills with those who are interested in joining us. We have a mentor program allowing our clown members to work one on one with new members to show them the fundamentals of the art of clowning including makeup techniques, costuming ideas and suggestions, and character development. We all work together with our Director to create unit entertainment to share with our audiences.
Our Unit elects its own President and other officers to transact their monthly business and plan their entertainment and other activities. Clown Unit membership is open to any member of the Daughters of the Nile who loves bringing a smile to faces and enjoys spreading cheer to all.
