Primary Prevention focuses on delaying the first use of substances. The longer the delay, the less chance for developing a substance use disorder.

1: “Early alcohol use can disrupt adolescent brain development, academic performance, and social development.” (SAMHSA)

2: “Misusing prescription drugs is harmful because it can lead to serious health risks, including overdose and long-term damage to vital organs.” (prevention.org)

3: “Cannabis use directly affects the parts of the brain responsible for memory, learning. attention, decision-making, coordination, emotion, and reaction time.” (CDC)
