Wyoming Wildlife Advocates

Wyoming Wildlife Advocates Wyoming Wildlife Advocates is a 501 (c) (3) organization formed to promote a science-based approach to wildlife management throughout the state of Wyoming.

WYOMING WILDLIFE ADVOCATES INFORMS, EDUCATES AND EMPOWERS COMMUNITIES TO PRESERVE OUR WILD LEGACY, PROTECT OUR SHARED WILDLIFE AND MODERNIZE WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT ACROSS THE STATE. WWA encourages policies that will maintain a healthy, natural balance — or dynamic equilibrium —between predator and prey species. Wyoming Wildlife Advocates acknowledges that fluctuations occur among populations, but we

believe this is natural and that the hand of man must lay lightly upon the reins. WWA believes that migratory patterns must be maintained and connectivity between isolated populations encouraged. We envision a Wyoming where people and wildlife peacefully coexist.

We are pleased to announce that the incredible progress we’re making with livestock growers, hunters, and legislators in Wyoming has without question been the most effective campaign to get people of “opposition” conversing amicably in the state’s history. We still need your help! Fundraiser in bio!! Even though we may be wrapping up Hogs for Hope if these laws get passed. Jonas will still continue to actively lobby at no cost to continue to build bridges across the aisle. We have been incredibly effective and we will be sharing details this upcoming week.

We have come a long way, but we still have a ways to go! We need to get vehicular killing outlawed once and for all. Running over animals with snowmobiles is cruelty. The values of Wyomingites clearly don’t want this to be a continued practice but the laws don’t reflect that. We need to fix this.

We have connections at the legislature and are in talks with getting this passed. We need the people of Wyoming to know about what is legal in their state and how to let their legislators know that they want to see this banned.

Hogs for Hope is a movement that was created to stop animal cruelty to wildlife. Please keep this movement alive until we have cruelty fully banned.

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) confirmed in elk on the National Elk Refuge, raising new concerns for wildlife health in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Wyoming Wildlife Advocates is closely monitoring this development. Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a fatal neurological disease that affects deer, elk, and moose, and its detection in this population is a serious reminder of how widespread and persistent this disease has become across the West.

There is currently no cure or vaccine for CWD, and once established in a population it is extremely difficult to manage. This finding underscores the urgent need for continued surveillance, strong prevention measures, and science-based management strategies to slow its spread.

We will continue to follow updates from wildlife agencies and advocate for proactive, transparent responses that prioritize long-term ecosystem health.

Mama grizzlies might just be the best mamas out there! They give birth in the den and take care of their little ones on fat reserves until it is time to emerge. Then they are teaching and showing the cubs how to find food and survive until the cubs are up to three years old.

This beautiful mama is showing us how it is done!

After a review of court records, we have found that there is more evidence of wildlife abuse from the iPhone that was confiscated in the moose abuse case from Uinta County. There are at least nine additional photos showing both a young girl and boy holding a rope attached to a young deer lying on the ground.

Additionally, there is testimony that will be heard of Justin Martin (who is charged with accessory to this crime) roping and dragging a bull elk sometime in either 2019 or 2020.

This shows a pattern of abusing wildlife and treating them like domestic animals over a period of time.

Range Martin and Kylan Platt are also working toward a defense of “unconsciousness, automatism, or traumatic automatism.” In legal terms, “automatism is a criminal defense asserting that a defendant committed an illegal act involuntarily, without conscious control or intention. It argues the actus reus (guilty act) was missing volition, such as actions during sleepwalking, a concussion, or a spasm. It requires a total destruction of voluntary control.” Trauma can be involved in automatism.

Once again, this illustrates a deeper systemic problem of trauma and learned behaviors being passed down through generations. This isn’t just in Wyoming, it is nationwide.

We will continue to follow this case and let you know of developments as they become available.

Jackson Hole Bear Solutions is partnering with Teton County Library to help our community stay safe and coexist with bears. Join us for our Bear Country Gear Initiative, where we will be providing free bear spray and padlocks for coolers to help reduce human-bear conflicts and keep both people and wildlife safe.

Stop by the Teton County Library on May 28 from 4:00 to 5:30 PM to pick up your gear. Supplies are limited, and items are available on a first come, first served basis with a limit of one per adult. We will also be accepting expired bear spray for safe recycling.

Together, we can make a difference for bears and our community. 🐻
